“Gimmick” offense

There's no gimmick to creating mismatches. It's no gimmick to use wide splits to get Hyatt wide open against a safety. Hooker has become an expert at reading the defense and getting the mismatch he likes. If you notice they didn't run as fast last night as they usually do. What they did do was keep Bama from subbing and getting their cheetah package on the field. It's all about mismatches and putting stress on defenses. After the UF game doubters said it won't happen against LSU, their defense is better. After LSU they said the same about Bama, now they are saying can't do it against UGA. Hyatt has been open against everybody all year and will be against UK and UGA also.

I think, with wise choices and development....CJH has shown that it's sustainable year to year. Unlike CBJ's......it was pretty clear his wasn't. Never would be.

It’s not a gimmick if it’s effective. I mean, just think, we saw looks yesterday that Heupel was specifically saving for Bama. It’s nearly impossible to prepare for a team like this on tape.

It's based on extremely wide spacing and speed. Gimmicky, yes. Does it work, yes. Will be interesting to see what defensive coordinators come up with to eventually slow it down. They always do or else everyone would be running Hal Mumme's offense. I do think it is heavily dependent on having a dual threat QB. But I believe we've already purchased that for the near term future.

Most people may not remember or thought about it. But in the 2014 sugar bowl OU flew past bama, and bama had no answer for that offense, hype was the OC at OU. So why wasn’t he so easy to stop that night? Just asking.
TBF that was a markedly different offense.

This offense is turning the old “defense wins championships” wisdom on its head…I don’t see anyone (even UGA) on our schedule that can consistently stop and/or keep pace with our offense

I remember him saying before last season's game "you can practice defending the plays, but, you can't practice the speed". That's the secret ingredient.

And I agree about the speed. Thats why we should never try to run the clock when playing a good team, keep doing the up tempo game. We are not nearly as effective when we milk the clock.

And an OLine that can create running lanes.
The run/pass balance is the key to the whole thing creating mismatches because the safeties can't cheat on the run.

I think UGAs defense is not anywhere close to what they were last year. If we played them at Home we win at UGA will be tough. Bennet is no where near BY on escapability most QBs would have thrown some of those away or sacked that BY scrambled around and found a receiver & a TD on one. Just don’t see Levi’s or Stetson having that escapability and still keep eyes downfield. We shall see though, can’t wait.
