“Gimmick” offense

I think UGAs defense is not anywhere close to what they were last year. If we played them at Home we win at UGA will be tough. Bennet is no where near BY on escapability most QBs would have thrown some of those away or sacked that BY scrambled around and found a receiver & a TD on one. Just don’t see Levi’s or Stetson having that escapability and still keep eyes downfield. We shall see though, can’t wait.

Agreed…we just faced the best offense we will face this year and we outscored them…UGAs D might be a little better than Bamas but their O is worse…IMO we will outscore them

Golesh is a top notch OC. They found the flaw in Alabamas secondary. Their Safety could not cover Hyatt. When Alabama lined up a certain way, Hyatt was going to get the ball going downtown. Some games - Like Pitt - the outside receiver is determined to be the preferred matchup. When Tillman comes back, we could be averaging 50 points a game.

Also saw a film breakdown by Jordan Rodgers vs LSU. LSU wanted to play some zone, but the Vols kept using formations and motion that made it impossible. It literally turns every play into man to man coverage. That’s a huge advantage.

All new style offenses are gimmicks until they become common. The West Coast offense was a gimmick 40 years ago. The Spread was a gimmick 20 years ago.

This would not work if our QB was getting lit up like JG used to. Our QB was sacked once and we rushed for over 180 yards. They dominated…no gimmicks.
JG got lit up because he didn’t make reads anywhere near as quickly as hooker, because he didn’t make any pre snap reads.
Hooker has basically 3 options in mind when he’s made his pre snap reads. Deep ball if blitz is picked up, check down if deep is not open, or scramble. On run plays he has three as well, handoff, keep or scramble and see who gets open to pass.

He usually seems to have a preferred 1 and 2 already picked, discarding the third option. This gives him one thing to look at and make a decision while a defense has to defend all 3.
JG tried to choose between three options after the snap and usually ended up with option 4 getting sacked instead.

Great quarterbacks know they have to make decisions extremely fast or they lose all advantages of being on offense. Peyton was very quick to make decisions, Brady is,

JG couldn't figure out how much to lead someone that had that kind of speed....

When they announced that he was going to be part of some deal with T-shirts my first thought was...

"Will there be a football on the back of it?"

Said that about Spurrier as well.
My buddy, a gator fan, and I were talking about that. He said heupel reminds him of Steve spurrier. It’s not only because of his resume as a player; but it’s because he is changing the game.
we are so fortunate to have a head coach that’s innovative. It’s rare! I truly believe he is going to change the game. To me, why don’t people line up so wide? It creates 1 on 1’s while allowing a major run game. His philosophy has exposed that it is possible to open the field like a video game. Wait until the D slows down points.

But I believe our d is perfect for our style of play. Bend but don’t break. Bama we broke a lot, but it is BAMA, with the heisman trophy winner, and a squad that is like a semi pro team!!! Ya that’s right we beat THAT TEAM!! Oh man, it’s vibing like 98

When Tillman comes back, and if Hyatt keeps running his routes, any opponent will feel they have to score every drive to keep up.
We've already seen this out of Florida and LSU. This Offense is the reason they went for it on 4th down so many times. It makes opposing HCs scared and desperate. Had Bryce Young not played the game of his life yesterday that game would have been over by halftime

This offense is a constant attack. We don't play for field position. Every time we get the ball it's score or bust. That gives DCs heart burn
