Valur took the top spot from Breiðablik​


Valur and Breiðablik met in a real big game in the best women's soccer league at Hlíðarenda, where Valur won, 1:0.

The teams had the same number of points before the game, but Breiðablik was higher due to the number of casualties. With the victory, valir took the top spot and has 42 points, and Blikar is second with 39.

Valsars started much better and took control in the first minute. Blikar barely got over the middle and Valur got a lot of opportunities after Blikar's sloppy play and scored the first goal after that. Ásta Eir Árnadóttir sent a difficult pass up the field and Berglind Rós Ágústdóttir won the ball and brought it to Ragnheiði Þórunn Jónsdóttir who passed, where Katie Cousin had time and space just outside the penalty area and sent the ball into the goal in the bottom left corner.

Valsars continued to attack throughout the half, Ásta Eir saved on the line after a corner and Blikar barely managed to connect two passes in front and almost got over the middle.

However, Blikar had a good chance to equalize in the 39th minute when Birta Georgs sent the ball forward and Katrín Ásbjörnsdóttir was well positioned on the penalty line and took a shot that went just wide.

Blikar came into the second half with better direction, but Valsarar had more dangerous chances to begin with, and Natasha Ansi was close to poking the ball into the net for her old club, but put it just wide.

Blikar had a shot on goal in the 55th minute after a nice play, from right to left, and Vigdís Lilja Kristjánsdóttir had a shot that was saved by Fanney Inga Birkisdóttir.

Katie was close to scoring a second goal with nine minutes remaining, from a similar position as she scored the goal from, but Telma Ívarsdóttir saved and Valur won, 1:0.

We were all excited when Kayla committed to Tennessee. Local talent that was a scoring machine. Probably one of the most decorated players coming to UT. Unfortunately she was injured and missed her entire freshmen year 2023/24.

Forward | Seymour, Tenn.

A local product, Kayla Barr owns the all-time scoring record for Maryville High School with 96 career goals as well as 53 assists. She was a four-year all-state performer, the 2019 freshman of the year, a finalist for Tennessee State Player of the Year in 2020, a United Soccer Coaches All-South team nominee in 2020 and 2021, and she participated in the 2022 High School All-American Game. She played club for FC Alliance and was named to the Ohio Valley All-Conference first team in 2020 and 2021. She played in the ECNL Girls National Selection Game in 2020 and 2021 and made ECNL National appearances in 2019 and 2021. Barr enrolled in January and participated in spring training.

She did play this spring 2024/25. Scored a goal in the Clemson game.

Scored a hat-trick last weekend in her WPSL match for 865 Alliance. That sucks because she really is lightning fast, and could have been a great asset on the wing.

Shae Yañez joins Crystal Palace Women​

Goalkeeper Shae Yañez has become Crystal Palace Women’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper joins the club on a permanent deal from Bristol City, where she spent the second half of last season competing in the Women’s Super League.
Before her six-month stint with the Robins, Yañez represented National Women’s Soccer League outfit San Diego Wave.
It is not the Macon-born goalkeeper’s first spell in English football, however, as she previously spent three seasons with London City Lionesses, keeping a club-record 24 clean sheets in 72 appearances and helping them finish Women’s Championship runners-up in 2021/22.
Yañez also had another spell in the NWSL with Washington Spirit, where she began her professional career, and becomes Crystal Palace’s second arrival of the summer after defender Katrine Veje.

Mattern helped lead Western Albemarle High School to a state championship in 2021 and a regional title in 2023, earning All-District, All-Region and All-State honors in both seasons and being named Virginia High School 4D Player of the Year in 2023. She ran track for one season, helping Western Albemarle to a Virginia High School Class 3 Indoor Track State Team Title and winning an individual state championship in the 300-meter hurdles while placing second in the 55-meter hurdles. She posted the fastest 300-meter time by a freshman in the nation at 40.28 and set school records in both events.
