  • Ranks second on Tennessee's all-time goals list with 39; Kylee Rossi (2005-08) holds the program record with 43 career goals.
  • Her goals-per-game average of .66 ranks second in the Tennessee record book, trailing only Bunny Shaw (.77) and Alison Campbell (.70).
  • Her 11 career game-winning goals are tied for fourth-most in program history.
  • Scored a goal against Indiana to move her career total to 39 before suffering a season-ending injury.

2022 - REDSHIRT JUNIOR​

  • First-team All-SEC performer led the Lady Vols with 13 goals and 28 points on the year.
  • Averaged .68 goals per game to rank first in the SEC and 12th in the nation
  • Started all 19 matches and ranked second on the team in shots (54) and shots on goal (30) while logging 1,255 minutes played.
  • Scored Tennessee's lone goal in the season-ending loss to Xavier in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament (11/11/22), receiving a ball played in by Tara Katz with her back to the goal before turning a defender and volleying it into the far left corner of the net.
  • Drilled home a cross from Taylor Huff in the 78th minute of Tennessee's 2-0 victory at Georgia (10/9/22), extending her goal streak to four consecutive matches; Thomas also helped set up the deciding goal in the 77th minute, when her close-range shot deflected off the keeper and was booted home by Claudia Dipasupil.
  • After Mackenzie George won a hard-fought ball in the 88th minute vs. Missouri (10/6/22) and sent a cross toward the goal, Thomas redirected it past the keeper for her 11th goal of the season.
  • Unleashed five shots during Tennessee's 1-0 win at No. 13 Ole Miss (9/30/22), the last of which was a header off a Claudia Dipasupil serve that found the back of the net for the 11th game-winning goal of Thomas's career; for her efforts, Thomas was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Moved into sole possession of second place on UT's all-time goals list when Claudia Dipasupil served a ball into the box and Thomas buried it in the back of the net from eight yards out in the first half of Tennessee's 4-1 win at Kentucky (9/25/22); it was Thomas's 34th career goal.
  • Assisted on Tennessee's first goal of SEC play, delivering a spot-on pass that was driven home by Mackenzie George in the 19th minute of UT's 2-1 conference-opening win at Florida (9/16/22).
  • Scored a goal for the sixth consecutive match when she smoothly booted home a rebound off the keeper—following a shot by Maddie Eskin—during the first half of Tennessee's shutout victory over Queens University of Charlotte (9/11/22); the goal was the 33rd of Thomas' career, tying her with Hannah Wilkinson for second place on the program's all-time list.
  • For the second time in three matches, she logged a brace during UT's shutout win over Kennesaw State (9/8/22); her first goal of the match opened the night's scoring, and her second goal—set up by a pinpoint cross from Maddie Eskin in the 44th minute—gave the Lady Vols a 2-0 lead.
  • Ran her streak of consecutive matches with a goal to four when she knocked down a cross from Mackenzie George and volleyed a shot into the top right corner from 12 yards out during UT's 7-0 win over Tennessee Tech (9/4/22); Thomas also assisted on a Jordan Fusco goal in the 53rd minute of the triumph.
  • Scored a brace in Tennessee's 4-0 triumph over Bowling Green (8/31/22); her two goals propelled her from sixth place to a tie for third place on UT's career goals list, with 29. The goals came 19 seconds apart in the 64th and 65th minutes, and both were assisted by Taylor Huff.
  • Gave the Lady Vols a 1-0 lead over #5 Duke (8/25/22) when she found the end of a cross by Maria Nelson, one-touching a shot past the Duke keeper from six yards out.
  • Her first goal of the season—the 26th of her career—came in Tennessee's home-opening 1-1 draw against #23 SMU (8/21/22), as she tapped in a Hannah Zaluski corner kick from close range in the 60th minute.

2021 - REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE​

  • Amassed 25 goals over her first two active seasons on Rocky Top, cracking the top 10 in career goals. She will enter her junior season trailing Tennessee's all-time goals leader, Kylee Rossi, by 18 and second-place Hannah Wilkinson by just eight.
  • Finished her sophomore campaign with a team-high 13 goals on the season, tying Bunny Shaw and Kylee Rossi for third on UT's all-time single-season list and ranking first among sophomores.
  • With 31 points on the season, she ranked second among UT sophomores and tied Emily Dowd, Rhian Wilkinson and Kim Patrick at eighth all-time.
  • Tallied five goals and an assist during UT's SEC Championship run.
  • Is the only Tennessee player to record braces in multiple SEC Championship games during a career.
  • Logged seven goals over five games, spanning from Georgia on Oct. 24 through the SEC Championship game on Nov. 7.

Arkansas is the favorite to win the 2024 Southeastern Conference women’s soccer title in voting by the league’s 16 head coaches. Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama round out the top five vote-getters.

Birmingham, Ala. – Arkansas is the favorite to win the 2024 Southeastern Conference women’s soccer title in voting by the league’s 16 head coaches. Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama round out the top five vote-getters.

A record seven SEC teams are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings: Georgia 14th, Arkansas 16th, Texas 17th, Mississippi State 18th, Alabama 20th, South Carolina 21st, and Texas A&M 25th.

The 32nd season of women’s soccer in the SEC begins Thursday, August 15.

GK | Johnson City, Tenn.



An in-state product from Johnson City, Tenn., Norris has won four district championships and three regional championships at Science Hill High School, receiving All-Region accolades every season and garnering All-State honors in 2021 and 2023. She plays club for FC Alliance, earning ENCL All-Conference nods in three seasons and participating in ECNL National Team Training Camp. She was twice selected for the ECNL National Showcase and U.S. National Team Selection Camp.

Four Lady Vols were named to the 2024 SEC Preseason Watchlist, as announced by the conference Wednesday. Jaida Thomas, Mac Midgley, Sammi Woods and Kate Runyon were all tabbed as players to watch this season.

Jaida Thomas | Redshirt Senior | Forward
Thomas, who enters her final season on Rocky Top, currently ranks second on Tennessee's all-time goals list with 39 and sits just four back of Kylee Rossi's program-best 43. The three-time All-SEC player and 2021 All-American appeared in just two matches last season before suffering a season-ending injury. During the 2022 season, Thomas scored 13 goals and posted the best goals-per-game average in the SEC at .68.


Mac Midgley | Junior | Midfielder
Midgley is coming off a sophomore season in which she appeared in 20 matches while starting in 19 of those contests. The Wolverine Lake, Michigan, native concluded the 2023 season as a consistent contributor after finishing with three assists and two goals to rank fifth on the team in points with seven. Additionally, Midgley tied for third on the team in minutes played with 1,444 and netted a crucial game-winner during UT's 3-2 victory at Missouri last year.

Sammi Woods | Graduate Student | Forward
Woods comes to UT as a graduate transfer after four seasons at Michigan. In 2023, Woods led Michigan with eight goals and 17 points while also producing a team-high 34 shots. The Saline, Michigan, native also led the Wolverines with two-multi goal matches and started in all 18 contests. Following her performance on the pitch last year, Woods earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors.

Kate Runyon | Sophomore | Forward
Runyon is coming on the heels of a solid first-year campaign in which she garnered SEC All-Freshman Team honors. The Westminster, Colorado, native appeared in 15 contests and started nine before missing time due to injury. Despite her limited time on the pitch last year, Runyon finished fourth on the team in goals (4) and points (9). Additionally, Runyon earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after scoring in back-to-back games against Florida and South Carolina.

The Lady Vols look to build off a 2023 season in which they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They open the 2024 season on the road, traveling to Indiana in an 8 p.m. ET contest on Thursday.

MATCH CENTRAL: Indiana vs. Tennessee​

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's soccer team is back in action on Thursday, Aug. 15 as they host the Tennessee Volunteers at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

BROADCAST:
The match will be streamed on Big Ten Plus. On the call will be, Ian Plaskoff (PxP), Luke Brenneman (Analyst) and Sydney Parrish on the Sideline.

GAME PROMOTIONS:
IUWS will be giving away 2024 schedule posters and cards at our first match of the season. Stop by the marketing table to pick up a 2024 schedule poster and/or card while supplies last.

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEERS:
Indiana is 1-0-1 against the Tennessee Volunteers. Last season, the Hoosiers scored two goals in the 33rd minute within seconds of each other in the first half. The Vols scored twice in the 53rd and 72nd for a 2-2 draw in Knoxville. Tennessee ended last season with a NCAA First Round win against No. 17 Xavier with a 1-0 win in overtime before falling to No. 15 Nebraska 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Vols held a record of 9-7-4 and added 17 newcomers which included 10 freshman and seven with collegiate experience.

RETURNERS:
Of IU's 25 players that saw minutes in 2023, 21 will return for the 2023 season.

IUWS is returning eight of its 12 goal scorers last year. Coffield and Costello scored at least two goals with an additional six scorers returning this season.

Indiana's backline returns veteran defender Camille Hamm, rookie standout Piper Coffield and Lauren Costello. This trio aided in the single-season shutout record and combined for five goals and 18 points.

Veteran Sydney Masur and counterparts Natasha Kim and Hope Paredes return for the Hoosiers in the midfield. The trio combined for 39 shots, 14 shots on goal and five points last season.

Elle Britt led the team in shots last season with 42 and 13 on target. Marisa Grzesiak trailed Britt with 27 shots and 11 shots on goal.

NEW ADDITIONS:
The Hoosiers added six new additions to the team including graduate transfer Avery Snead and five true freshmen in Layla Sirdah, Bella Haggerty, Josie Pratl, Maggie Ledwith and Haden Vlcek.

Snead was named to the Big Ten Player to Watch List as she looks to bring her veteran experience and make immediate impact on the pitch.

Haggerty, Vlcek and Pratl will add depth to the IU's backline while Maggie and Layla look to create more scoring chances for the Hoosiers.

B1G PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Jamie Gerstenberg, Jr., GK
Gerstenberg earns a spot on the watch list for the third straight year. The reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year who started between the pipes in all 20 of the Hoosiers' matches. She totaled 52 saves (.765 save percentage) with a .82 goals against average. She set the single-season shutout record with 10 and went 12-4-4 as the primary keeper. The Birkenwerder, Germany native holds Indiana's career shutout record with 25 clean sheets and tied the single-season Big Ten record. Gerstenberg was also an All-Big Ten First Team selection and will continue to make big strides for the Hoosiers.

Piper Coffield, So., D
Coffield was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and picked up three Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards and one Defensive Player of the Week in her rookie season. She played a total of XX minutes, holding Indiana's backline strong. She scored three goals with two assists and combined for eight points. The Mars, Penn. native scored two gamewinners on penalty kicks to put the Hoosiers on top last season. Coffield ended last season with a .429 shots on goal percentage and aided in the cream and crimson's single-season shutout record.

Avery Snead, Gr., D
Snead, a graduate transfer from Providence College, earns a spot on the Player to Watch List after looking to make a big impact for the Hoosiers. She joins the Indiana women's soccer team after spending four-years with the Friars. As a midfielder, she started in all 69 matches and totaled 13 points in her career with six goals and one assist. Snead held a .525 shots on goal percentage with four game-winning goals to finish her career. A native of Wrentham, Mass., she was named to the All-BIG East Second Team in 2023, earned All-BIG East All-Freshman Team honors in 2020 and Second Team Honors in 2022. Snead was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team. Snead is a two-time NEWISA All-New England Second Team honoree.

2023 SEASON BY THE NUMBERS:
• The Hoosiers 12 wins last season are the most since 2013 where IU went 15-7-1.
• IU faced three losses last season, the least number of losses in a single season. Indiana finished with five in the 2020-21 and 2021 seasons.
• Indiana women's soccer made their first Big Ten Tournament appearance since 2019 and the 15th in program history.
• IUWS totaled 20 points for the best Big Ten finish in program history. Had two of the best conference finishes in the last three years with 19 points in the 20-21 season.
• 36 is the highest RPI since the 2007 (23) and the 2013 (29) seasons.
• Indiana made five appearances in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this season and earned the teams highest ranking in week six checking in at 17th.
• The Hoosiers made three straight appearances in the United Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer's national polls.
