ATHENS, Ga. - The Tennessee soccer team is set for a road contest at Georgia for a 6:30 p.m. ET Friday match at Turner Soccer Complex.

Tennessee (7-3-3, 2-2-2) is looking to bounce back from consecutive losses to No. 6 Arkansas and No. 9/14 Auburn.

In their last match against the Tigers, Jenna Stayart and Reese Mattern found the back of the net for the Big Orange.

Stayart's goal, assisted by Sammi Woods, was a strong left-footed strike from the top of the box.

Mattern gave Tennessee its second goal via a header off a corner kick from Sarah Bridenstine.

TRACKING THOMAS: Thomas, who enters her final season on Rocky Top, currently ranks second on Tennessee's all-time goals list with 39 and sits just four back of Kylee Rossi's program-best 43. The three-time All-SEC player and 2021 All-American appeared in just two matches last season before suffering a season-ending injury. During the 2022 season, Thomas scored 13 goals and posted the best goals-per-game average in the SEC at .68.

PUT 'EM ON NOTICE REESE: FreshmanReese Mattern was slated as a Freshman Midseason Top 100 by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Charlottesville, Virginia, native has started in all 13 matches while notched two goals and three assists. Mattern currently leads the squad with three assists and 21 shots.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Last time out, the Bulldogs tied Florida, 0-0. Georgia currently sits in a four-way tie for sixth place in the SEC. Georgia's goalkeeper, Jordan Brown, currently leads the SEC in saves (89) and ranks seventh nationally. Margie Detrizio leads UGA with eight goals, 18 points and 42 shots as Summer Denigan leads the squad in assists.

MATCHUP HISTORY: Tennessee is 19-11-1 all-time against Georgia with a 5-8-1 record against the Bulldogs in Athens. Last season, UGA pulled out a 2-1 win over the Lady Vols on Oct. 13, 2023.

Pretty sure these would be the sites for the first round matches.
Could easily see Tennessee go to Duke, UNC or Wake Forest if they qualify.

Escambia County Extends SEC Women’s Soccer Championships Agreement

Escambia County has approved a new agreement to host the Southeastern Conference Women’s Soccer Championships through the end of the end of the decade.

The SEC Women’s Soccer Championships were first held at Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in 2022, with the first agreement continuing to 2024 for the tournament that begins November 3. Under the new agreement approved Thursday, the SEC Women’s Soccer Championships will continue to be hosted by the county and Pensacola Sports at Ashton Brosnaham off 10 Mile Road in 2025 and 2026 with an option to renew for three on-year periods through 2029.

The 2022 event saw record-breaking attendance numbers and generated $2.5 million in local economic impact, according to Escambia County, with several million more in 2023.

“Thrilled. Absolutely thrilled,” Pensacola Sports President Ray Palmer said Thursday afternoon. “One of the things that is so exciting is the reality that when these conferences find a home, and a neutral site home, it really takes years to grow the event the way they want it to grow, and we want it to grow.”

“The fact that they believe in what we are doing…I just think we couldn’t be prouder,” Palmer added.
