A quarter of Americans surveyed could not correctly answer that the Earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around, according to a report out Friday from the National Science Foundation....

1 In 4 Americans Thinks The Sun Goes Around The Earth, Survey Says : The Two-Way : NPR

While I understand (but dont agree) with the religious reason for the question about evolution, i cant fathom how someone would get this wrong. I wonder how many believe the Earth is flat too?

Sad, but somehow not surprising..

Answers might correlate to the ones thinking the Earth is 6000 years old.

I guess I missed it. Where is the religious part of the article? And you do know that this article is by the npr? Right?

In the same survey, just 39 percent answered correctly (true) that "The universe began with a huge explosion" and only 48 percent said "Human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals."

You won't agree if you're a creationist.

Most that disagree with evolution do so based on religious beliefs. I was not trying to imply that is why people think/believe the sun revolves around the Earth.

Here is the same story on thedrudgereport if that makes it easier for you to swallow.

Was 1-in-4 they surveyed from Alabama? If so that would explain a lot.

Absolutely nothing. No matter what the right says, they are the most unbiased news source in the US. Plus, their content is better than anyone else, also.

I agree. I am a liberal, but I don't tune in for their news coverage. I love their other programming, Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion, This American Life.

Of course it is the best. That's why they can do it with no assistance...oh wait.

Not sure if you get it. They don't air commercials to pick up the bills, so they rely on donations and public funding.

Oh I get it, they're still getting a high percent from the man.

Also, they pretty much suck. Would rather read the WSJ anyday. Infinitely better.

I would say the issue is with the word 'revolves' rather than ignorance of the solar system.

Love Prairie Home Companion. Garrison Keillor is great. Everyone on that show has talent.

Oh.... are these the correct answers? Strange these are such stone cold facts because I was under the impression neither of these theories are even close to being proven.

Edit: Sorry guys. I'll save it for the politics forum.
