10-0: Best start to a season in 25yrs

12-0 in 1915-16 is probably the all time record to start a season (actually that was the ENTIRE season).

Uncle Jerry started that 1999-00 season 11-0 and then lost to Tulsa in the finals of the 8 team Puerto Rico Holiday Classic.

10-0 right now with Western Carolina, MTSU, Norfolk State, and Arkansas coming to the TBA/FCC before going to Florida.

Bill Self left Tulsa after that year. Succeeded by Buzz Peterson.

Nolan Richardson and Tubby Smith also coached at Tulsa before Self/Buzz.

Frank Haith landed at Tulsa after getting fired by Missouri in 2014. Missouri hired Cuonzo in 2017. It’s a tangled web of UT connections.

Ron Slay was talking last night about how the Vols are tougher this year due to having multiple players who could carry them. Mentioned last year how they struggled if DK was off, vs last night when Chaz and ZZ were both fouled out, how the team came together and all stepped up and created opportunity at the end. Nobody panicked and they just ran their offense. Great to see!!

I've been a Tennessee fan since I walked on campus as a freshman in 1975. I have never seen the athletic department even close to this successful. It's unprecedented. The new fans are going to get real spoiled.
You are right. Across the board success was non existent. Lady Vols, Men's BB. Football, Baseball, Track & Field, Swimming, Tennis, Golf. No Women's soccer during my times. Across the board we are strong.
Like you I have nevered witness this much success across the board.

Quite the stat imo. We've seen some really good teams during that time
There's some nice pedigree in the OOC scheduling for sure, and you can't really ask to do better than going a combined 6-0 against the ACC, B12 and B1G in early non-conference play. You see Virginia and Baylor and think recent titles. Miami and Illinois have been in the Final Four and Elite Eight in the past couple years. And Louisville and Syracuse just look good on a resume, I don't care if they've both fallen off some lately.

Leave it to Rick Barnes to screw up something as simple as cashing them checks and coasting into an easy retirement.

Hands down the best era of Tennessee basketball.

Rick Barnes has more fire now that perhaps ever in his career. I think he is gunning for a Natty or at least another FF.

Best coach we have had in Knoxville IMO.

But Auburn fans told me we ain't played nobody.
Some of the local guys this morning said their were a couple of teams in the SEC better. I guess I get it Auburn. Barn has the better resume, and the hairline Broome. But I’d take UTs defense over their resume and roster.

Ray Mears and Bruce Pearl would disagree with that statement.

I remember when UT started out 10-0, and I think they had that same start under Don Devoe, forgot the year.

Devoe started out 5-5 in 1978-79. Finished 21-12 (12-6) and regular season runner up. It was a memorable season because TN was 3-0 versus Kentucky and won the 1979 SECT after it returned from a multi-decade hiatus.

TN had a double bye in the SECT format that year. The bottom 8 had to win twice to get to the semis. LSU had the other double bye. KY had to win 3x to face TN in the SECT finals. LSU was the #1 seed and went 0-1 after KY knocked them out of the tournament.

Ray Mears and Bruce Pearl would disagree with that statement.
Bruce Pearl was here one year longer than Butch Jones, and Barnes has matched or exceeded every major accomplishment Pearl had here.

Mears was great for his time but he also failed to win a single tournament game at UT, even with Ernie and Bernie.

Barnes is the clear cut GOAT of this program at this point.
