From:

1990-1999 7-3 (W) - Florida
- this was the Vols “Glory Years” we all love. Florida won 5 STRAIGHT from 1993- 1997.
Great Peyton never once tasted victory against the Gators…

2000- 2009 7-3 (W) - Florida
- We began to decline in 2005 with our last division championship in 2007. Florida out 50 on us in 2007. Florida won 2 National Championships during this era. Urban Meyer left after 2010.

2011- 2020 9-1 (W) - Florida
Florida beat us 4 TIMES during this era while they had a WORSE record than Tennessee…

2021 Florida 38- UT 14
2022 Tennessee 38- UF 33
- This was our best season in 20 years and it took a last second interception AT HOME to defeat a 5-7 Florida team…
2023 Florida 29- UT 16
- Tennessee 9-4, Florida sub. 500 again.

Florida is 25-8 against Tennessee from the beginning of Tennessees “Glory Years” til now.
Heupel is 1-2 against a Florida program that’s been in turmoil.

25-8 is NOT a rivalry…
Every damn season the same people will say
- “Florida sucks this year! We’re going to run through them”
And Florida most of the time wins regardless!!
There is a mental barrier there… you don’t have to agree. The results speak for themselves. Even during their worst years they had to Tennessee beat on.

I don’t care about Oklahoma or any other game we have played now.
FLORIDA is always the game we need to win to propel our season.

This Tennessee team in 2024 is very different tho…
We beat them this year. I would like to see a blowout. 58-10 Vols type blowout if possible
We are set to dominate them for the next decade. UF will be lucky to win two games over the next ten.

So if it’s not some kind of curse then what is it? How can teams like UK, SC and even Missouri beat UF but we can’t? Why couldn’t Fulmer hardly ever beat UF despite having the talent advantage? Even in 1998 we barely beat them.
Do you really want to know the answer to that Fulmer question?

We barely beat them in 1998 despite not having a passing game.

IMO playing UF in Sept was a big disadvantage for UT. Florida schools are better conditioned due to practicing in FLA humidity all pre season. Plus Spurrier out coached Fulmer so often all the UF players were confident they could always beat UT even after Spurrier left. Similar to how TN always has KYs number.

This year UT finally plays UF later in the year after conditioning has evened out and FLA has already lost there confidence due to already being exposed.

There’s no curse. But Tennessee does seem to have a psychological hang up in the Swamp. Most of the losses down there were to a superior team. But we were better last year, as well as in 2021. We pissed down our legs in both of those games.
The fans do only because we’ve seen it so many times. I don’t think Heupel has any hang ups like that with any team, including OU. This ain’t Fulmer Freakout week anymore.

What curse? We beat them 2 years ago.
LOL, they've had a not only HoF coach for 15-16 years. We had Dooley, Botch, and Pruitt. Think about that, dont worry i'll wait...

(jeopardy music)

Many of us old enough, recall an 8 game win streak vs Bama. If a curse existed, it would be our Ky vs Tn in Florida Gators.

Many many times we are the better team & we choose pain.

Fulmer did not play. He didn't quarterback the team. He didn't miss tackles. It is not witchcraft 🧹. It was not sorcery. Football is played between the lines.
I lived in Florida long enough to hear about the Gators playing with Doctor Mogambo's voodoo products. Not saying I believe in that stuff, but it is out there.

The 'curse' only exists in a few feeble minds. Just like the nonsensical battered Vol nonsense. We haven't been good enough to compete for a national title since 2001. So what in the hell have people been expecting? I always hope the team does well but it's obvious when you're really good and when you're not. And we've been not good more often than not in recent history.
We lost to a 4-8 Muschamp team that lost at home to Ga Southern. We lost at home to a 7-5 Muschamp team. We didn’t have to be competing for National Titles to beat those 2 UF teams in b2b years.

So a 5-7 team lost to a 7-5 team on the 7-5 team’s home field and that’s and example of a curse? The 4-8 Florida team was 2013…Butch’s first year. Tennessee finished 5-7.

Those were bad Florida teams beating bad Tennessee teams. We have failed to capitalize on Florida being bad because we’ve been bad too.

We were not 5-7 in 2014 when we lost at home to UF 10-9. We’ve had as much or more talent than UF a lot of the times that we lost to them since Spurrier left. No matter who the coach has been on either sideline since 2001 we’ve pissed down our own leg when facing them.

You mentioned a 7-win Muschamp team (I thought you meant 2011, which also won 7) and a 4-win Muschamp team (that was 2013). So I addressed those 2 seasons. If you’re referring to 2014, Florida was 7-5 and Tennessee was 7-6. We lost by 1 point to a team with a slightly better record. Hell, that Florida team lost by 5 on the road to the eventual National Chsmpion. That Florida State team would have DESTROYED that Tennessee team.

Again…not a curse. If anything, that Tennessee team played Florida closer than it should have.
