Analysis: It's rare that an elite level quarterback can sneak to a team's camp but that's exactly what happened in the case of the Iowa City four-star signal caller. Derby showed tremendous velocity and seemed to have really improved his mechanics and overall accuracy since the last time SoonerScoop.com had a chance to see him. If Oklahoma didn't already have a similarly elite quarterback it would seem that an offer would definitely be headed Derby's way.
Per Rivals... He has also been invited to compete against Scroggins and Co. to earn an offer from USC. Seriously, why aren't we on this kid? 6-5, 218- I don't think you can be a better size for a QB in high school. Just look at that offer list: Alabama, Florida, FSU, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, etc. Somebody get some info...
I agree but what position are most of those schools recruiting at? Rivals projects him as an athlete but he looks like a solid QB to me. I think he deserves a look by the staff IMO.
Although Derby played safety as a sophomore, he says he’s being recruited to play quarterback.
“I’m a quarterback. Everyone is recruiting me as a QB. I’m a good leader and am really competitive. I have the ability to leave the pocket and can make something out of nothing. I definitely look to throw first, but I’m not afraid to take off and run and make things happen. I’m working a lot on my feet. I also want to improve my accuracy in my throws.”
The real question is why haven't the UT coaches been to Iowa City. This guy looks like a solid prospect, but running is certainly a big part of his game. He would need a little time to develop into an elite passer. JMO
UF is on him as a TE from what I undersrtand
