(Free) Gabe King says he tries to pattern himself after two outstanding professional defensive linemen--Julius Peppers and Michael Strahan. If he keeps improving at this pace, there's a chance he could have a great career at the next level, just like his two favorite players.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound strongside defensive end is out of Page (Greensboro, N.C.), and already has been noticed by some of the premier college football programs in the nation. Georgia offered last fall, and North Carolina, Duke and N.C. State are just some of the other schools that are pursuing the junior.

"Duke sent me my first offer on Sept. 1; it was a laminated copy," King told Sporting News Today. "I was so completely shocked. I wasn't expected that. I'd been told by players and coaches that it would happen to me, but I just didn't know it would happen so soon. I just could do anything but thank God."

King--who actually played high school football in Aiken, S.C. before moving to Greensboro--watched at N.C. State, North Carolina and Georgia quickly followed Duke. He said for awhile it seemed like he was getting one offer a week during the fall.

I have heard big things about him, being that I live in Greensboro. Definitely going to have to go watch him play next year.

"My quickness, hand speed and explosiveness off the ball are good. I think I have two or three moves I really like to use," he said. "I still want to improve on my strength. I want to get my bench and squat up. I'd like to lower my 40 time and come off the ball even faster."

Sounds like a good kid, but this comment doesn't really make much sense.

i played football with gabe until he moved to NC. he felt like he had a better chance of being recruited up there and he was right. he has gobs of potential, is very fast for his size, and could wind up having a very good career. I suppose my support of the Vols wore off on him, though he was always a big UNC fan...

Described as "essentially unblockable" during this past weekend's Charlotte combine.

In the one-on-one drills that pit offensive and defensive lineman against each other, King, ranked third on The Observer's North Carolina Top 25 prospects list, blew past or through his opponent.

He also ran a 4.75-second 40-yard dash on a lumpy grass course that had several dips in it, reducing speeds across the board. By the time the day was done, King was named the combine's overall most valuable player.

King says California and North Carolina are his co-leaders.

“They’re carrying ‘1A’ [and] ‘1B,’” King said. “I wouldn’t give them either ‘1’ or ‘2.’ They are in the same category.”

He's down to, "Cal, Oregon, TENNESSEE, Maryland, and Miami..."

Keenan Allen, who the reports references, is also still considering Tennessee.

It be nice to get both of these guys!

get'em boys....

Interesting article. But in a recent article from Allen he states Bama is his leader with Clemson behind them. BTW both Allen and King are at the Bama camp this week. They said Allen and Cobbs have become real good friends at the camp. Who knows maybe they will follow each other.

I haven't really seen anything about Carolina but it is rumored he might be going to their camp whenever the last one is. That is all the info I have heard in regards to their camp.

The TIDE still trailing for King, but Allen named BAMA his leader along with Oregon. Bama did make a good impression on King and Allen should commit before season starts
