I think we need to help Cam Akers make the right choice. I can think of a few reasons he should choose Tennessee. Maybe others can add more.
- Tennessee campus and football program is very often noted by the players for it's family atmosphere. (Look at the NFL talent that want play in the upcoming bowl game for one last time with their VFL brothers)
- Opening available at RB. Jump right into the rotation.
- CBJ has no problem putting freshmen on the field.
- If mama Akers wants her son away from the big city environment and all the distractions that come with that , Knoxville is an awesome city in beautiful location. Just look at how many former players and alumni, not from Knoxville, make their home there.
- Regardless of the criticism CBJ got for his "Champions of Life" statement, I believe it absolutely represents his sincere goal for his players. To not just succeed on the football field but, also in the classroom, in the community, and in life. He truly cares about his players and doesn't hide that.
- Don't let the location fool you, Florida State and Tallahassee are not part of the South.
- Florida State is not part of SEC.
- Ole Miss has a NCAA cloud hanging over them. How long and how severe?
- Tennessee gets as much or more TV time that almost any other team in college football.
- Tennessee fans are as loyal and passionate as you will find. We've been selling out Neyland stadium for as long as it's been there and very often exceed the 102,455 seating capacity.
Bonus: And not even on the list, you'll meet and possibly become friends with the GOAT and VFL Peyton Manning.
Also, the offensive line will have another off season to grow and more cohesive. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that every O-lineman except Weismann and possibly Boulware are returning. That should be a selling point as well.
Hope he decides on the Vols
The last few articles ive read on Akers, has Bama really coming into race. It would be awesome to get Cam in Knox, but I think were slowly falling behind in this sprint.I hope he comes here, I really do, but logically FSU or Ohio State makes the most sense. Both are perennial national title contenders and they both just produced two of the best backs in recent memory (Cook and Elliot). They not only have a better recent track record, but they're more stable places in general. He could easily come to UT, and we have some really good recent success producing good running backs. It does seem like anyone who comes here becomes a stud back under Butch, but if he comes here it would be because he likes it here better, not because it's the logical choice.
