South Columbus High School in Tabor City is sort of off the beaten path, but recruiters are apparently finding their way there to see the Stallions big tight end, Ethan Farmer.

The 6-4, 275-pounder averaged 20.2 yards per catch last season to earn all-area honors from The Wilmington Star-News. He’s been clocked at 4.85 in the 40-yard dash and some believe he could develop into a top-notch offensive tackle or defensive end at the next level.

Clemson, N.C. State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech have all already extended scholarship offers to Farmer.

"Clemson recently offered TE Ethan Farmer (6-4 275) of Tabor City, NC according to his coach. Farmer also has offers from Tennessee, Virginia Tech and NC State. He's also getting interest from Maryland, North Carolina and Wake Forest. Farmer attended junior days at Clemson, Duke and North Carolina and participated n the Scout.com combine last weekend in Charlotte. According to his coach, Farmer is a very good blocker in the Wing-T offense they use. As a receiver, he's effective on drag routes across the middle and has good hands. Farmer does not have a favorite according to his coach."

Sarcasm noted, but some of the numbers could be from a bad camp or his sophomore year. Just saying. Also, notice I said run-stopping DE. :)

No sarcasm there - he's obviously not a potentially pash rusher at DE - but it'd be a waste of athleticism with a 4.8 to put him at DT or on the OL.

Notes...Farmer is probably NC State’s number one jumbo athlete on the board. With his size, athleticism and quickness, Farmer could project at a number of positions although he would appear to favor tight end. Sources tell Pack Pride that State is in good shape here and the Pack was in his top two as recently as early May. However, with the addition of several new offers, State seemingly slipped a bit in June and needs to get him back on campus to improve their chances. Throughout the recruiting process, Clemson has been a constant with Farmer.

"I haven't set any officials up yet," he said. "I'm planning to take my officials in November or December. The schools I'm considering for those are Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Alabama and perhaps Wake Forest if they offer."

"I'd say Alabama has impressed me a lot," he said. "North Carolina has along with Virginia Tech definitely has, they were top four in the country. That's top notch right there. Tennessee definitely is playing well too."

I do not see us recruiting him any more unless we take him as a DE, which he also plays. We already have 2 TE for the class of 2010.

B Vogler 6'6 245
H Jones 6'4 225

E Farmer 6'2 265 A little small for a TE. BTW he is from NC not SC I believe.

His bench and squat leave a lot to be desired. I know it can be increased by getting him in the weight room but those #'s tell me what his natural strength is. I think he would end up being soft. At the size he is I would expect his #'s to be at least 20-30 percent higher.
