Not long. UT is one more top notch recruiting class from being a true national contender. If they hit the home run in recruiting I expect them to next year, UT will be primed for a Final Four run in '08-'09.I'm no basketball expert by any means, so how long do you think this will take us to get up there... The progress since Pearl got here has been unbelievable.
1. Possible, not probable. From talking to people in and around the League, Kevin didn't handle the pressure of being a head coach very well. People would be wary to give him another shot. He is, however, one of the most respected assistants in the Association.Do you think O'Neill will get another shot at being a head coach in the NBA? Pearl wouldn't go to the NBA to be an assistant, would he?
That's a very astute observation, tidwell. You can't play that style in the pros. Paul Westhead's second tenure and Rick Pitino's failures with the Celtics proved that. There are two main reasons it doesn't work. One, ballhandlers in the NBA will eat a press alive. Two, it's not physically feasible to expect guys to run like that 82 nights a year, plus playoffs. I do think Pearl could adjust to the pro game if he wanted to do so.I guess I just question the style of play Pearl uses. Could he get the pros to buy into that? If not, I'm sure he's bright enough to adapt...
10. Kansas, UNC, Florida, and Ohio State are on another level than the rest of the country talentwise. If 3 of the 4 aren't playing on the final weekend, there will have been at least 2 major upsets.

I think next year's class will address every position to some extent. I think Ramar is going to be just fine. Elite players like him have been playing year round since they were about 11. He'll hit something of a wall, almost all freshmen do so, but I don't think he'll do too poorly. As to freshmen at the 1 in the tournament, I believe Gerry McNamara, Kenny Anderson, Stephon Marbury, and Mike Bibby did OK. As the early exodus to the NBA has made the game younger, inexperience at the point becomes less of a detriment to team success.A great signee at what position puts next years class out of the park?
Also Hat, I'm fairly amazed Ramar has soaked in the point so well to this point. Does the learning curve swallow him up now that it's SEC time? Does the longer schedule and more rigorous style of play take his freshman legs away? Both? Neither? Can NCAA success really follow with a frosh at the 1?
What say you, oh knower of all things nylon...
UCLA has very good personnel, but it doesn't match the 4 teams I mentioned earlier. I've never stayed at the Monte Carlo. I will say you can never go wrong staying at the Bellagio. I am totally underwhelmed with the Wynn.UCLA doesn't make that list?
On another topic, what do you, or anybody else who has visited Vegas recently, think of the Monte Carlo?
I've got a CLE possibility coming up there, and am wondering whether I should opt for the convenience of staying at the host hotel or opt for the Wynn or Belagio, both of which I know.
Three exceptional nights of shooting from Chris Lofton and JuJuan Smith coupled with a draw that avoids a team with the post presence to exploit how thin we are in the post.

I would agree. I actually enjoy staying downtown at the Golden Nugget. It's a nice change of pace from all of the Strip properties. They've done a nice job of refurbishing the place. Thanks for the advice. I haven't stayed at any of the three, but have been inside both the Belagio and the Wynn. I did, however, have a rather indifferent stay at the Venetian, and have therefore removed it from the list. I see no reason to stay at a hotel I categorize as "indifferent" in Las Vegas.
