After a day of wandering around the French Quarter, here are my thoughts at 6:19 central;

1. Why doesn't the SEC rotate the Championship Game between Atlanta and New Orleans?
2. New Orleans, post-Katrina, is comparable to Pearl Jam. The loyalists who really love the city still travel to the Big Easy. The trendy, hipster doofuses don't.
3. Reggie Bush is the modern day George Rogers. Everyone here thinks he's going to change the franchise's fate.
4. The Acme Oyster House has taken Peyton's UT jersey down and replaced it with Eli's Ole Miss jersey. The Crescent City does love the Mannings.
5. Big Al Carson is still the King of Bourbon Street.
6. Unless I misread the apparel trends here, there are a surprising number of UT fans in New Orleans.
7. How can anyone think Drew Brees is a great NFL QB?
8. Talking to associates down here whose opinion I really respect, Auburn and LSU are going to be very, very good.
9. Why isn't Tabasco Mayo mandatory on every sandwich in America?
10. Bourbon Street merchants spend the entire year praying for a Tennessee appearance in the Sugar Bowl.

1. Very, very good question
2. Nice comparison
3. He sure looked electric in the preseason opener -- almost like he had a sixth gear on a field of 5-speeds.
4. I'm boycotting during my next trip. Er, nevermind. No I'm not.
5. Ho ho ho.
6. A little surprising
7. He may not have to be. "Servicable" might be good enough if Bush is as good as I think he is.
8. At least we get LSU at home. Oh, wait, I guess that puts US at a disadvantage. And, if we play Auburn this year, you'll probably be buying my drinks!
9. Because very few sandwiches in America hold a candle to a well made Po' Boy.
10. Hmmm. Never knew I had so much in common with Bourbon Street merchants.

Hope you're having a great time. Is it true that O'Flaherty's is closed?

Hate my old buddy, good report. If you really wanna live have a Basil Hayden on ice. The VERY BEST bourbon in the world! I wanna make it to the Cal Game so I can meet you. But I can't so your little meetings at that bar need to continue. Have fun pard.

Stop writing and get out there. Was there in April for a 10k run. Note to self: Don't ride mechanical bull at midnight after many beers & jello shots and run a 10k after two solid days of mechanical bulls, beers & jello shots. Bourbon St. lives on!

Basil Hayden is very good. I prefer Booker's.

Sadly, yes. O'Flaherty's was a Katrina casualty.

My observations from a trip 3-4 months ago.

11. Getting a healthy buzz is mandatory on Bourbon St. so you don't notice/mind the fact it smells like @$$.

12. Louisiana politics are as bad after Katrina as they were before.

13. Drive a few miles east of town and things get very real very fast. And New Orleans won't fully recover for a long long time.

Bookers has a higher proof and I will concede that it is a very good representative of the best use of corn mankind had devised. However for the more experienced palate BH is the one. But hey, when you talking about quality that high... I guess it doesn't matter that much. Enjoy a Bookers on the rocks but please don't add anything to such a perfect creation. When it comes to great Bourbon just remember "ice will suffice".

VB, as I stop in at the Royal Sonesta for an interlude, it isn't how experienced the palate is, it's purely a matter of taste. You are correct, I would never dilute quality bourbon with the addition of other liquids. The small batch bourbons are all quality beverages. You can also add Knob Creek, the Wild Turkey special batches, and the premium Gentleman Jack lines to bourbons that make the grade.
