McMinn County's Cy Ables (Sr. QB) is the real deal. He is 6'4" 205 lbs, has good passing accuracy and strength, and good foot speed. He is definitely big college material. Keep an eye on him and McMinn County this year. They beat McMinn Central (cross town rival) last week and face Chattanooga's McCallie tomorrow night. It will be an interesting season, especially, with the last game being Ooltewah.

Cy is strong in the pocket. He also has no problem running with the ball. If he stays healthy, he will mount up some impressive passing and rushing stats this year.

I saw him play last Friday. I'll be surprised if he stays healthy. I guy in the stands told me he had a bum shoulder from last year and he seemed to be nursing it a little late in the game. Their coach seems to want to run him alot so that only makes the situation worse. He picked up quiet a few yards running against a team that was in the middle of a cramp-a-thon after the first quarter. I really don't remember him throwing the ball that much either. They say he is a good kid with good athletic ability and heart but I'm not sure he is what we are looking for. And I don't think his coaches help him that much. I would say the opposing quarterback (Zach Rayle) outperformed him IMHO.

How do you see the season playing out for McMinn Co and Cy? I am sure they have high expectations. Is Cy getting much recruiting attention at this point?

To follow-up on your comments... the shoulder he injured against McMinn Central was not the same shoulder that he injured last year. And, his shoulder was fine at the end of the game. As pertaining to his passing... yes, he got more yards rushing than passing, and, unfortunately, that will be the case in many of McMinn's games this year because of their style of offense. However, in the preseason scrimmage games, passing leagues, and quarterback camps, he was incredibly impressive as a passer, and from my view and understanding, their weren't many other TN High School quarterbacks who were close to him in performance. Let's follow his progress and see what happens. McMinn Central's QB (ZR) is a good quarterback, as well. However, if you are going to use cramps for his excuse, you have to consider that Cy didn't have his starting tailback / receiver, and one of his better down-field receivers in that game either. He will have both of them tonight verses McCallie.

I have reviewed QBs from across the state and even looked at video of some of the guys (Bray, etc...) that TN is supposedly looking at...and I feel that QB Cy Ables (MCMinn Co) needs to be seriously considered by TN. He is 6'5" 205, 4.7 speed, strong arm and accurate, good reader. He had 293 yrds passing against McCallie last week, and in the 2008 season, he had 238 passing yrds against Ooltewah and their superstar DE J. Smith, and led the upset of Kingsport's DBennet in the 2008 playoffs.

Ht: 6-5 Wt: 200 40: 4.7
Position: QB
Year: Class of 2010
High School: McMinn HS
(Athens, TN)

Somebody needs to get this kids video up on youtube and to some of the recruiting sites, I truly believe some kids sail under the radar because of a lack of exposure/effort....he needs a facebook to befriend some of the ut coaches....video on youtube and maybe an interview here on....I would love to see this kid succeed, get a ut offer and be a star...i would love to get a top flight cal guy that has been in a ton of camps and everyone knows about but a hometown guy would get a lot of cheers and backing

Talked to some guys in Kingsport just now and they said he was a heck of a QB but not UT quality (not sure what that means when you look at our QB play lately). I don't see him being an option when we didn't really even look at the kid from Sullivan South last year who is at Wisconsin now.

not saying it's a similar situation but everybody missed on Montori Hughes and he may end up being a starter this year.

Cy Ables wouldn't have "good" stats if he didn't run the exact play over and over and over and over. He throws a little dump pass towards the sidelines to Smith and and Tevin. Thats the only pass when he throws. He doesn't have the arm strength to throw downfield. He makes poor decisions on running and throwing it away. He always tries to run and gets dumped for a 10 yard loss. Just like the Mcminn kicker, no chance in hell on this one. If he needs a look then WV qb needs a look, which both will never happen.

We don't need another Div. III talent at quarterback. We've got at least 3 of those on the roster already. Pass on Ables.
