'10 TN QB Cy Ables

He doesn't even have an offer from UTC. I don't see any reason for UT to show interest, especially since we'll likely have Bray on board within the next week.

Bo Wallace is better than Ables anyway.

Either way......a big time QB WILL sign with UT (er.....a highly ranked qb will sign...none in this class are BIG TIME anyway.)

I don't mean that Wallace or Ables are big time.........

This thread is a joke. Went to a camp with this kid this summer and he is not any good. And he is not 6'5 maybeeee 6'2 on a good day and has a miserable throwing motion

Yes, McMinn County got thumped Friday night by Maryville. McMinn's defense was totally outplayed. On the other hand, as pertaining to quarterbacks: Cy Ables, QB for McMinn, still had a somewhat decent game. He maintained his composer and "accurately" passed all over the field. Maryville's QB was an excellent option runner, but didn't show much as a passer. All around, Cy Ables was a much better college prospect.

If by saying college prospect you mean schools like Tusculum, Carson Newman, and Cumberland University then yes I agree.

Per his coaches, he "likes Eastern Kentucky but Jacksonville St. talks to him all the time." So you're pretty much right.

Cy is much better than what a lot of people are giving him credit for. Put him behind a good-size quality offensive line and he would put up some amazing numbers. In three games, he is averaging over 180 yards passing, and that is with a small mediocre line. Again, he has the goods...6'5", 205lbs, 4.7 speed, accurate/strong arm. He already has schools much bigger than Carson Newman "size" schools looking at him.

17/30 for 150 yards and an interception when Maryville had their 2nd team in for about half of the game realllly isn't that impressive. 12 rushes for 20 yards isn't either.

Actually, I am neither his (Cy's) pastor nor his father. However, I am a fan, and I do have a son who plays on the team. But, regardless of my ties to McMinn Co, I am unbiased when it comes to looking at good high school players. I am first-and-foremost committed to TN High School football, and I want to see our state producing top quality players. To say he (Cy) doesn't have a strong arm is way way off the mark... Just ask his receivers. I have watched him matched up against other competing QBs and there is a big difference, as it relates to passing.

I'm sorry, but you are definitely wrong. My son is 6'2" and Cy is definitely taller than him. Furthermore, to say that he is not any good leads me to question your judgment. I believe it's safe to say that even your coach, who, by the way, got his start at McMinn Co, would disagree with you. Just look at last years stats...McMinn vs Ooltewah 08.

I don't know about this whole argument but it's one game. How many times do the Giants beat the Patriots? It's probably 1 in 100. 1 in 50. 1 in 20? It was a lucky game. Just sayin....

Yes, he was 17 of 30 for 150 passing yards, but he was 15 of 20 first half. This was while the Maryville's first string was in the game. He gained most of his stats in the first half. McMinn's coach basically conceded the second half turning to the run half way through the third quarter...just to run time off the clock.

The word is that... Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, MTSU, Louisville, Kentucky, and South Florida are interested in Cy. Furthermore, I don't know the specifics, but it seems as though he was at the UT/UCLA game this past Saturday by invitation. Still trying to get the exact scoop on that one.

I have reviewed QBs from across the state and even looked at video of some of the guys (Bray, etc...) that TN is supposedly looking at...and I feel that QB Cy Ables (MCMinn Co) needs to be seriously considered by TN. He is 6'5" 205, 4.7 speed, strong arm and accurate, good reader. He had 293 yrds passing against McCallie last week, and in the 2008 season, he had 238 passing yrds against Ooltewah and their superstar DE J. Smith, and led the upset of Kingsport's DBennet in the 2008 playoffs.

Ht: 6-5 Wt: 200 40: 4.7
Position: QB
Year: Class of 2010
High School: McMinn HS
(Athens, TN)

The kid is a fullback playing Qb! His uncle (the coach) inflates his stats at the expense of the team. He runs the Franklin system and should of had McDermott or Masingale behind center for it to flourish. Cy is a good kid but most feel he got the job because of all the family ties. One thing that I don't question is his toughness but I don't see him playing Qb at the next level period.

McMinn hasn't lost because of their offense. They have lost because of special teams (McCallie game) and defense (Maryville game). Consequently, Cy playing QB has nothing to do with family ties; he has "easily" earned the right. On the other hand, McDermitt is a great athlete (Receiver/DB) and will go college as receiver/DB. As for Massingale, he is a good all-round player, as well, and can play QB, RB, LB, DB, etc...even has a good arm, but Cy is the man.

Easy to earn the right when there is no competion. I'd take the Rayl kid over at Central any day over Ables.

Sidenote: That offense is hell on wheels between the 20's and a stat machine but its all about putting it in the endzone. As for the defense what did you expect when they hired Bradley's def co?
