Since there are a number of prediction threads floating around various sites, I figured I'd take a shot at it.

1. Arizona will tank and Lute Olson will retire in disgrace.
2. Texas El Paso and Southern Miss will finally give Memphis some competition at the top of C-USA.
3. The Big East will send 9 teams to the NCAA Tournament.
4. Demar DeRozan will have the most impact among freshmen.
5. Indiana will lose 20 games.
6. UNLV will win 25 or more games.
7. Florida will rebound and be a top 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
8. St. John's will fire Norm Roberts.
9. Purdue will fall far short of their lofty preseason ranking.
10. Oklahoma State will be one of the nation's surprise teams.

I tend to agree with your take on Arizona. I had previously thought that you were a Lute Olsen fan. I must have been mistaken.

With respect to Florida being a top 12 seed in the NCAA tournament, I'm assuming you mean you think they'll be a #3 seed or better. Is that a correct interpretation of your post? They would almost have to be at least a #12 seed or better if they make the tournament at all, so I'm assuming that you mean one of the top 12 overall seeds = #3 seed or better.

UTEP and Southern Miss? UAB has been giving Memphis competition. UAB is the last team in CUSA to have beaten Memphis... and we were within 1pt of doing so last year. UTEP's got a pretty good program, but Southern Miss??

What's good, what's gonna be bad in SEC west this year?

another question along the same lines, how much do Holloway, White and Henry impact Ole Miss this year? Also, with Buckner coming in next year, I think Ole Miss is two years away from being a top 15 type of team, any thoughts?

Both Mississippi schools will be solid. LSU will be better than expected. A healthy Alabama could make some noise. Arkansas is going to be painfully young. Auburn will be looking for a new coach at year's end.

What the heck
1.The Big East will be the most dominant conference I've witnessed in my lifetime
2.Memphis and UCLA will both rebound back to contend for Elite 8 appearances even with their losses.
3.Evans and DeRozen will be the 2 best Freshmen
4.Jamie Dixon will be COY
5.Watch out for Gonzaga(or the WCC as a whole that's turning into a terrific small conference)
6.Brandon Jennings will realize that he's made the biggest mistake of his life. His stock will drop big time.
7.Mark Gottfried will be fired
8.Oklahoma is the most difficult team to get a feel for. They have big-time potential, but I see them possibly tanking.
9.Hasheem Thabeet could be playing the most valuable role in all of college basketball this season
10.The Pac-10 will once again be fun to watch this season. They're the outright 2nd best conference

Ole Miss will contend in the West this year, then dominate the division in '09-'10.

Nobody in C-USA has given Memphis competition. Southern Miss is coached by a former National Coach of the Year. UAB is coached by an imbecile. That's the difference.

Memphis is like the Patriots, they have a weak schedule but can beat anybody on any day. You cant judge their talent by the schedule.

They annually play one of the 5 toughest ooc schedules in the nation. They usually come up on top in most of those match ups.

They also play in an absolute laughing stock of a conference. That's why they try to schedule a lot of big non-conference games. Even they know that their conference is a joke.

The committee rewarded them with a #1 seed last year. Cal could care less about C-USA if they can keep pulling in 5 star recruits and contending for championships and having great ooc rivalries

Who cares? Your response to a post saying that they play an easy schedule was to state that they play a tough non-conference schedule. While that may be true, the fact that they play in a joke of a conference results in their overall schedule being weak.

I just remember last year one of their knocks was about their strength of schedule and will it prepare them for the big game later on.

Guess you thought UNC's schedule was weak last year, given the pathetic conference that was the ACC. Only team of any note, aside from UNC, in the conference was Duke, and they were awful.

:eek:lol: The ACC was tougher than the SEC last year.

2008 College Basketball Conference RPI Ratings

It's hilarious that SEC fans would be throwing stones about the toughness of another conference when the SEC was lousy last year.

College RPI conference rankings are trash and you know it. Anything that had the Big East below anyone was worthless. The ACC was possibly the fifth best conference in the nation.

Yeah, the ACC should be real proud that Florida State is less awful than Auburn, Oregon State, or South Florida. The ACC had exactly one good team last season. The other ACC "power" got manhandled in the second round by the seventh best team in the Big East.

Hey, we should all realize that it is appropriate to bow to a conference whose champion was behind 40-12 in the National Semifinal.
