10 win seasons

The team blew the opportunity of a lifetime. These opportunities don't open up very often. They failed the fans bigtime yesterday night.
They failed the fans ? How about they failed themselves ? These guys put in work to get better, all year long. They will realize the mistakes and what they cost them. Look Football is a spectator sport, we watch the games.... These guys play them. And I would bet you they feel it 10 times more than a FAN does. If they do not, thats a big part of the problem. This was a hugely frustrating loss, but as has been mentioned, nobody saw this team achieving what it has to this point. The D was an absolute mess, and USC played an impressive game. The Banks situation clearly played a part, but damn, that D as a whole was just abysmal.

We had a chance to make the playoffs, in November. Does it not excite you a little bit, that Heupel had us in that position in year two? That wasn't even a conversation two months ago.

This, 1000 times this! Why can’t we look at this as a glass half full moment? We were in the hunt, talked about on the national stage seriously for the first time in a long time. We were ranked #1 in the first CFP rankings release, we have a top rate offense, and we are poised to win 10 games this season and go to a New Year’s 6 bowl game. This is the best season I have ever experienced (married into being a Vol fan in Fulmer’s last year).

Sure, I am sad about what could have been, and hate how it ended last night for the team and for Hooker. It was a horrible showing and there are clearly problems to fix, but I am willing to give CJH the chance to fix them because he has more than earned it, IMO. But I am excited about the recruits we have coming in, excited about the offense we run, excited about the direction of the team overall, and excited to watch more Vol football. So I can get over an extremely bad loss, eventually lol.

I just hope next year we hang 100 points on USCjr to end Beamer’s career.

Just like we was supposed to be 6-6 to 8-4 this year right?
Everything lined up pretty perfect for this season we had a favorable home schedule for one. Next season we play at Florida, Bama and Kentucky. It will be more difficult next season plus rebuilding the offensive line. I’d be happy with 8-4 or 9-3 next season considering all the key players we are losing.

We will beat Florida and Kentucky on the road. And I’ll trade a bama lose on the road to beat UGA at home. Next year team will have similar results to this years team.

I think Florida is a coin flip game we haven’t won at the Swamp since 2003. We will beat Kentucky and lose to Bama and Georgia

So you know our future record next year and year after that? Care to share?
Sure. Next year we go 7-5.

Losses @UF, @Al, @KY and @Mizzhome loss to UGA.

Team has not shown me anything to have trust in their ability to win on the road.

Really???? Have we not shown you enough evidence that we cannot go on the road in a hostile environment and play decently??

The offense wasn’t an issue last night. We fix the defense issues then we will have a really good team. The defense doesn’t even have to be great. They just need to be decent.

Why does it gotta be our last chance? No one expected the playoffs this year. This was a rebuilding year from the start. Let’s see what Heupel does in years 3-5 when he has all his recruits on board. It does bother me we blew our chance this year. But what makes you think we can’t be back in same position next year?

Next year - we are looking @ 8-5, 7-4 @ Alabama, @ UF, SC will be solid if Rattler stays, Milton still overthrowing everyone or a 100mph fast ball on every pass, no decent DBs, Nico wont be ready yet.

Opportunities like this year are rare, I stress this to my MS & HS athletes I coach in football, track & wresting, the key is to maximize the opportunities, mentally you can process a loss with focus and effort, sometimes an opponent is better sometimes you don't get the breaks. But this was a blown opportunity and now just a regret.

Last night was an avoidable disaster; lack of offensive creativity zero new wrinkles for SC defense to figure out, awful secondary play, forcing the ball to Tillman vs taking what d gives or using other players, no adjustments, crap effort (lots of punk smack talk), terrible coverage & tackling technique, I could go on.

I just base it on the history of the program. The stars aligned for us in 98. We took advantage of every opportunity. It hasn't happened since until this year.
The stars didn't align for us this year. If they had, we would have won.
The stars aligned for SC last night.
The stars aligned for GA in our game.
I think the stars align for us next year. Milton = Tee Martin. One year senior starter - undefeated!!!!!
Or maybe not............that's what keeps us intrigued.

Does it not bother you even a little bit that we just blew our first and last chance in and for a long time to make the playoffs? It was served to us on a silver platter this year. We said no thank you.
Don't you realize that we have already won more game then 99% of the fan base thought possible, and we did that with a depleted injured roster? Enjoy the success and look for better seasons in the future.

As are the Legions of the Miserable.

I had hoped they had all withered and died in their dark lairs, away from the blinding sunshine that this season has mostly been.

The utter abomination that happened last night, however, awoke the nameless things to resume their vigil,

Some people on here really don't get this. For TN, opportunities like this don't come knocking at the door every year. I'm still sick in my stomach over this bitter loss.

What was your honest assessment of this team prior to season? I would guess you had us winning 5-6 games this year to start with like most everyone else? We have plenty coming back and woht what’s coming to have a very good season again next year to.

Maybe a blessing in disguise. If we had played OSU, Stroud probably would have 600 passing yds and 8 TD's against this secondary.

Nothing will change no matter who coaches us until we change the talent level and put the staff in place that can motivate that talent. If that is JH and his staff I am 110% in. JH has to prove that he can recruit multiple 5 stars then complete the team with 4 star talent mixed with a select few of coachable 3 stars. We aren't catching the bama's, lsu's and uga's of the world with our current roster. We just lost 2 SEC games..................the exact amount that BowlCut has lost in the last FIVE YEARS. Even the great Nick Saban has lost 6! We have to land better talent and add depth to contend with our rivals. This starts and ends with recruiting success.
To be fair-Bowlcut lost to Vandy, Butch, Ole Miss, Florida, and Georgia Tech his first year and had more talent than all of those schools. He came to a program with multiple prior ten win seasons and a national championship caliber roster. In fact, they’ve had more ten plus win seasons than not in the last 21 years. Georgia has had one losing season since 1997. Our guy had none of that and coached his way to at least 9 wins and a #1 ranking. That being said, last night is inexcusable and he’s not going to be our guy if something like that ever happens again in his tenure.

I’m not sure that’s true of all the guys on the team.
