104.5 Stat on Senior Class

Officials on BOTH sidelines marked the ball short of the yellow line (which they cannot see.) Everyone saw their QB shoulders and chest go past the line. What NO ONE saw, including the replay official, was where the ball was at when he went down. The linesman on the Vandy sideline had the only possible view of the ball and he marked it short.

UNC one is the only legit one to complain about IMHO; UGA is debatable but you can't count that as a win, plus I think the call was correct.

LSU was a little bit of a screw job. Once the offense substitutes, the umpire is supposed to stand over the ball and let the defense do the same. That didn't happen.

If 2 UT players gave even the slightest inclination that they planned to leave the field, I might be inclined to agree with you.

Why does that matter? The ref is supposed to stand over the ball and give the defense a chance to make that decision.

He stood over it long enough for two guys to run on and get set. On most subs, players run on the field at the same time others are running off.

The point of the stat and the thread as I put it up was; The team had what they thought was a win ripped away. Whether the call was right or the team deserved it was not relevant. It is still hard to start celebrating and then get it changed and you lose. Many of you were like me and jumped up and down in front of the TV at the LSU game or started to leave the bowl game only to realize when you got to the bottom of the stadium- uh oh. GA still had a chance, but to go from a TD to a turnover in OT is just as gut wrenching.

Your statement implies that the replay official saw "indisputable" video evidence that the ball was on the 33 yd line. This has been debated on VN ad nauseum, but the fact remains that NO such video evidence exists. The ball cannot be seen nor can one be sure of where the ball is being held by the QB in any of the angles they had. Yet the replay official overturned the call on the field.

Prior to the overturn, TN was in clear possession of a victory.

So, yes, stolen.

AV

The replay official, unlike some fans, realized that unless he was carrying the ball between his ankles he clearly had the 1st down, and probably still had it then. I guess if the pile had moved 10 yards down the field because they couldn't see the ball it should have been placed short?

Chad Withrow on Midday 180 just said that three senior classes in history have had one win taken away with a call reversal (I am assuming in all of NCAA). This UT senior class has had 4 (LSU, NC, GA, Vandy). Wow- I knew that, but just to hear that explains why all of us are so ticked off. That just isn't right.
Exclude me from being ticked off. Being older I have enjoyed defeating Vandy 95% of my lifetime.

According to the rule YES.

Now the next thing will happen is a more clear definition of "indisputable".

I agree with what you are stating. Somewhere this thread got out of tilt.

This Sr class had 4 calls reversed in games that resulted in a loss. The fact that they were correct reversals or not has zero relevance to the Stat.

And zero relevance to the fact that I've about had it with refs.
