Fox has been the highest rated cable channel for years. There's a reason for that. They fill a void by speaking to people who have a certain perspective. Lots of those people have money. People who pay to advertise like to know people with money are hearing their ads. It's a simple formula. Yes, Nashville is a blue city particularly in the ring around downtown (what those of us who've been here awhile would call the old city limits, pre-consolidation) and Antioch (because most of the black people who got squeezed out by gentrification have landed there). But the suburbs are not and that's where you're more likely to find avid sports fans who will regularly listen to sports talk radio and who have the money to buy the advertisers products, particularly high dollar stuff like trucks, jewelry, hair replacement and pecker hardeners.Think I'm done with 104.5 in the mornings. The previous morning crew would get argumentative at times, but they typically kept it light and stayed away from politics, which is bad news in sports talk (although you could generally tell which side of the spectrum they were on). Ingram was insightful, Howard had a lot of inside knowledge and was basically a human sports encyclopedia, Wycheck then Bishop (although he was annoying sometimes) provided a good view of the players' perspective. From the few minutes I listened yesterday, Martin did none of those things. Just sounded like the angry sermonizing/rantings of a guy who wanted to get political but leave enough wiggle room to say, "well it may have sounded political, but it wasn't my intent." Maybe he'll prove me wrong when he has actual sports to talk about, but from what I heard of his evening show, I doubt it.

Can't say I don't sympathize. I listen to Bill King. I wouldn't call him political but he throws a lot of barbs at the left. Can't really argue with Clay's success. Maybe they should just pay for his show instead of having a local? I suspect that's the next move if J-Mart does not work out.I would say I'm probably part of that target demographic you describe and I'm an avid sports fan, especially Vols and Titans. I tune in for news and commentary on those teams.I don't tune to 104.5 for red or blue takes. I don't think Martin will be very knowledgeable on local teams or be able to do thorough interviews with people that are knowledgeable. His default setting is doing takes on whatever stupid hot topic the national media is talking about. If that's who advertisers want to reach thats fine. They've lost me. If I want politics, I've got satellite radio and I'll turn it to politics.

I hear you. Right now, it's almost inescapable. I listen to the soccer station on XM and I find myself clicking over to Willie's Roadhouse whenever they start preaching at the audience on social issues. I do want to know what's up with college football and if I have to hear some political ramblings along with, I'd just assume listen to someone I can somewhat agree with instead of someone who makes me want to change the channel.Travis would do well here, but i won't listen. He's more of a politics guy than a sports guy now, and he's made that work for him. I really don't want my sports talk to be a political endeavor. I'd rather hear about recruiting, etc from some of the Knoxville guys, titans from Coach Mac, Mike Keith. Clay will never cover any of that.
My goodness he’s incredibly boring though.... I’ve heard him in the evening and it’s more than I can take. 104.5 will be getting sued by people falling asleep and crashing in morning trafficwell if you like that kind of sh!t then you'll love the new morning show. Jason Martin has that shock jock attitude. Rants and all. Any press is good press to them
Fyp. He was fine at 6pm. No one listens to sports radio then. Can't say I don't sympathize. I listen to Bill King. I wouldn't call him political but he throws a lot of barbs at the left.
