Call me crazy but I am not exactly thrilled about this guy. It is early in the recruiting season. We are his only SEC offer. Why are we offering kids that MSU, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky should be
offering.
You're crazy. If the kid posted a 4.41 at one of those combines then it was probably laser timed. A legit 4.4 sprinter in HS isn't as common as the Player Profiles would lead you to believe. This kid can smoke.
It's quite simple. Dooley does not have much faith that we can attract higher caliber talent.
Wait. It is just that simple? You are saying it could not possibly be because Dooley and his staff (who have been around the block a time or two) think this kid HAS high caliber talent?
This kid reminds me some of Teague. Teague was a 3* until UF and a few others "discovered" him. If this kid has those measureables for real and attends camps this summer... he'll probably end up rated higher.
I understand that UT is down right now, but we have the resources, history, and tradition to turn our lack of talent into a recruiting advantage. It is not like we are trying to sell these kids on Louisville's facilities. We are Tennessee! IMO, We may end up with a few 4 star players in the end, but I am affraid the majority of this years class is going to consist of 3 star players who are not going to contribute early.
Which Freshmen contributed over the past couple of years? IIRC, Bohannon, King, Hughes, Johnson, and Rogers all made contributions as Freshmen. Several more did or will as RS Fr.
And about the "stars", I understand that there are always exceptions to the rule but four and five star players are clearly the better players and there is a reason that most of the premere colleges are offering them.
You can't call it a rule when it is neither claimed nor represents the "rule" of things.
Generally speaking, guys who get 4* and 5* are elite talents. That is true. But it is not mutually exclusive with the fact that many 3* players are elite talents that didn't get as much notice.
Talent is talent whether the recruiting svcs see it or not.
Remember what Ed Orgeron said? When you sign a player you have him for 4-5 years. If he is not good enough to compete at the University of Tennessee, he is not getting an offer. I am not a fan of Eddy "O" but that is one thing I certainly agree with.

That from a guy who built a very good talent base at Ole Miss precisely by finding 2* and 3* guys with elite talent that the recruiting svcs missed. IIRC, O only signed one top 25 class (15) at Ole Miss but left enough talent to beat UF.
I don't know if DD and staff have that kind of eye for talent or not. I do know that it can be done.
