'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

Unless he is going to be a sign and place because of academics or he is a troublemaker, you take him at this point.

He is just as good if not better than NMT, Crump, Propst and so on.

We nedd capable bodies, LB is our weakest position IMO.

Propst was freshman All-SEC. And we have limited spots left. If we're feeling better about another linebacker, I can see passing. But given how suddenly it all happened, it has to be something more than just that.

He had 14 tackles...

Every major progam recruiting him passed on him. His lack of choices led him to go to Arizona Freakin State. But yeah your opinion on the matter is much more pertinent than the opinion of the numerous college coaches that passed on him.

Very obvious the staff passed. Why? I dunno, but I'm not gonna speculate. Good luck GP, kick some azz.

Or they just got beat out by another school, that is always possible too.

Better be in on a few LB"s because our returning LB's are very weak...worst I have ever seen at UT.

i dont think thats true but its possible. lol at people on here that freak out if you say a recruit just wanted to go somewhere other than UT.

Simply put, from what I've heard around and what I've read here and other sites is that Paul is simply too small to play the position from what our coaching staff wants. They did see him at camp but that was a while back and some have said that he grew since then and is still growing. He in fact, has not.

That's all I got.

For the record, Hubbs agrees with you.

When a recruit signs elsewhere, we passed on him, it is so funny the blind optomism from some of you.
Some of us aren't "blind" either way. UT has been turned down on numerous occasions... this isn't one of them. We now have pages and pages of speculation about why UT turned him down but there is very little credible doubt that they in fact did.

The LB's on roster are the worst that UT has had in my lifetime, you don't pass on kids like Paul...so last year we take guys like Propst and Crump and this year we pass on a guy like Paul?
So how do YOU know they are "the worst"? Both played alot for Thompson. Both played alot ahead of guys that Monte praised and LT played last year.

Makes no sense at all. It is delusional thinking.

We will see if we get someone "better" than Paul.
It is "delusional thinking" that you know better about this player than UT's staff and the staffs of every other SEC program. What makes you think you are in a better position than those guys to judge this kid? What do you know about him that makes you so confident and where did you learn it?

This pretty much sums it up.

If anyone really thinks we got beat out by ASU for Paul then you need your head examined.

FWIW Word is that while on last week's OV that Gionni Paul was on good behavior and nothing negative was noted attitude-wise. His family was well mannered and well thought of. If anything stood out it was that although Paul may have been as much as 6' tall, he didn't look thick and was even a bit small. They did re-weigh and re-measure everything on every recruit. His dad was little too so maybe they thought Gionni had already hit his peak. Not a good physical evaluation for a prospective D-1 SEC LB candidate.

That Steeler. I knew that the Crowder crew could clear this up. :good!:

I like Propst but I'm not using his "All SEC" season (that consisted of 14 tackles) as a bragging point on him.

I'm saying "Freshman All SEC" doesn't mean a whole lot.

Gotcha. Yeah, it's not an overly impressive award but I think he's gonna be a good player.

At first it was hubba hubba, ding ding ding...Gionni got everything. Then it was hubba hubba, ding ding dong...he sure didn't last too long.

looks like UM has become a player after losing Poole to Mich and OLB Dubose leaning toward L'ville....look for him to make the flip from ASU.
