Weighing in at 6-6, 220 pounds and running a 4.49 40-yard dash, receiver Kelvin Benjamin is turning heads. Recruiting is pretty crazy, Benjamin told GatorCountry after the Badger Sports Elite 7-on-7 tournament. I get offers in every other day.
Kelvin Benjamin: The star prospect out of Glades Central said over 25 schools had offered him including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and USC. He said he was open to everyone right now, but he did mention that Miami and Florida were schools he had a lot of interest in. He plans to sit down with his mother, look over his offers, and then narrow down his list over the summer.
'Freakish' is a perfectly acceptable way of describing Benjamin's size. At 6 feet 6 and thick, a wide receiver with Benjamin's build is extremely rare. Most prospects that have that kind of size are poor route-runners, have poor hands or both. That's not the case with Benjamin. He's not as fluid and precise as smaller receivers but relative to a player his size, he shows phenomenal body control and change of direction. He has very good hands and there are probably few receivers in the country that you would rather have in a goal-line jump ball situation. The biggest issue with Benjamin is an inconsistent attitude on the field. If he plays with a high intensity level on every play, there are few that are better.
Glades Central star Kelvin Benjiman will be inelgible for the final 2 regular season games and the entire postseason because he will be 19 years 9 months. Benjiman was retained once in middle school (now believed to be twice) & he missed another year (legal issues) prior to enrolling at Glades Central for his freshman year
... he sort of perked up when talking about the Canes and the former Glades Central players there, whatever it was, Canes always seemed to be the team to beat.
After Friday's talk, I just don't think Miami is at the top anymore. I don't know who exactly is (LSU & UF got some mentions from him), but I think it is safe to say it is no longer Miami. Maybe he is actually back to his line of "all even."
