'11 MI WR DeAnthony Arnett - UT Commit

Guys, he committed a month or so ago.

He was blown away by the Oregon game. His mom was really impressed with the coaching staff after a summer visit. Arnett really likes Baggett, Chaney and Dooley. He said he was impressed with the way Dooley has managed this young team.

He also said had Kiffin been at Tennessee he would not be a Vol today. We hear that Kiffin spend little time with the family when he made his visit to Southern Cal last week.

I don't know what you are thinking, but these stories were all prior to his announcement tonight. He's committed and says that he is glad to have this over with. And I take it you missed his live announcement at his high school where he chose UT.

My apologies if this ESPN Rise piece on Arnett has been posted here already; I looked for several minutes and didn't see it:

Frustrated by a lack of national recruiting interest following a sophomore season in which he caught 39 passes for 986 yards and 13 touchdowns, DeAnthony and his family decided to take the show on the road during the spring and summer of 2009...

...The first couple of road trips that spring were pretty standard: four and a half hours to Columbus, Ohio, for a camp at Ohio State; five hours to Chicago for a combine. He was the MVP at the Chicago event but still didn’t manage to gain any national traction. That’s when DeAnthony’s brother, Ralph, got an idea.

Ralph happened to get his tax refund check the week before Tennessee’s annual summer camp, so he and DeAnthony began planning an impromptu trip south. A few days later, DeAnthony and a couple of his teammates crammed into a rented minivan with Ralph and a few other family members — in all, 10 people plus coolers of food and water squeezed into the seven seat vehicle — and set off for Knoxville, Tenn. They left a little before midnight in hopes of reaching Volunteer country in time for the 9 a.m. start the next morning, and spirits were high despite the late hour.

"Someone doubts you or challenges you, you gotta make ‘em pay." - DeAnthony Arnett

From June of '09; I love Arnett's competitiveness...

In recent months, numerous opponents have bore witness to just what a good student Arnett was. He was one of a few sophomores to earn a spot on Michigan team at the Scout.com/New Level Athletics 7-on-7 passing camp in Columbus, Ohio, back in March. Once he shook off a few early jitters, he showed everyone in attendance that he truly belonged.

"I always play well with a chip on my shoulder," a confident Arnett said afterward. "Always."

That chip was once again on full display in early May when he traveled to Chicago to participate in the second of Scout.com's Midwest combines. When the event concluded, it was Arnett who walked away with the MVP award.

From last March:

Wide receiver Deanthony Arnett, from Saginaw, Mich. showed up late because of previous commitments but he didn't disappoint. Arnett, who now has 14 scholarship offers, made several big-time plays during the 7-on-7s. Overheard were several high school coaches comparing Arnett to former Muskegon (Mich. ) and current USC wide receiver Ronald Johnson.

For being in the middle of basketball season, Arnett looked exceptionally sharp. He's quick off the line, runs crisp and precise routes and caught everything in sight. With the athletic ability to play on either side of the ball as well as being a difference maker on special teams, the recruitment of Arnett is sure to hit a fever pitch.
