Named to 2011 Army game today. Why are we recruiting him if he's a dual-threat?

Everyone knows if Rivals pegs someone as a "dual-threat" QB, that he automatically would suck in a pro-style offense.

We have recruited a few "Dual Threat" QB's. If they have the size, arm, and smarts that the staff likes, then they are going to recruit them. Some of the dual threats are more like a Tee Martin in that they use their legs more to get out of trouble or when needed, not to run a spread.

Well 6'2 doesn't really fit the "USC QB" that Kiffin seems to want to run this offense properly.

A dual threat can be very successful in a pro style offense. Just because he's fast and black doesn't mean he can't be just as successful running this offense. Kiffin recruited Rocky Hinds to USC (he was stuck behind Leinart and ended up blowing his knee out).

In case you missed it, Virginia Tech ran a pro style offense and having a quarterback who can scramble for a big play when the play breaks down is a huge advantage. We haven't had a regular one as a starter since 1999- the last time we went to a BCS Bowl. It's time we brought in another one who we aren't planning on turning into a WR.

Yeah, Locker is running the same basic thing.

And really, a great dual threat is better than just a plain great pocket passer.
Its just that its almost impossible to find a guy who passes good enough to cut it, but can also run.

I've heard he didn't have a great junior year, but that he has tools to work with. Good arm and good mobility. I just think with our recruiting of players *like* Bray and some of the other '11 quarterbacks, a guy like Miller is going to stay close to home + in an offense that makes a little more sense for him.

It's definitely not that he couldn't be effective, just that the perception will exist (even with a QB offer from UT) that we'd take other '11 quarterbacks first.

I have seen this kid play in person quite a few times. He is definitely the real deal. Reminds me a lot of Tyrod Taylor....except faster. He will definitely have to work on his passing skills (especially his footwork).

He may as well have already signed his LOI to OSU though. There is 0% chance he goes anywhere else.

I know that Braxton is a dual-threat, but he is not that great of a qb. I live about 5 miles from Wayne High School and have seen him in a few games, not impressive. Got some moves but overall not very imposing against decent high school football. A coworker, who has a son playing as a starter on the squad, does not have a very high regard for his abilities. He's an OSU fan and doesn't think that he will be a starter for the team if he goes there.

it would be nice to get a qb like tee martin again and for 4 years he was awesome ,sure he wasnt peyton manning your alls favorite ,he didnt leave tennessee with all the records and 13,000 yards but he did go 22 out of 23 at usc jr and he could throw the ball perfect way down the field and he had many runs of 30 and 40 yards or more where he left everyone in the stadium going wow and did i forget he was qb for the first bcs national tital game and the only one ut has in my 40 years of life,i still remember the long pass down the right side of the field to pearless price for a td against fsu .but i would be happy with another heath shuler he ran quite a bit not near as much as tee but he didnt stand still and let them drill him if know body was open he took off instead of throwing the ball at the linemens feet for an intentional grounding likeyton and the pocket passers with know speed ,but im shock in the nfl peyton has done alot of running to keep from getting sacked if he had only knew how to do that while in knoxville tennessee might have had 3 ncaa titals in the 90,s

Strengths: Ultra-experienced player who has logged lots of snaps under center…Has played against and with top-flight competition…Supreme athlete from the quarterback position….Extremely dangerous as a runner in the open field, but willingly able to pick up the tough yards…Can make cuts on a dime and has terrific change of direction abilities….Good vision as a runner…Possesses a rocket launcher as a right arm…Has a quick, compact release…Throws crisp passes in the 5-25 yard range…Can throw the deep out and seam routes well, usually a challenge for high school quarterbacks…Elusive in the pocket and can buy extra time with his legs…Will make highlight-reel plays that 95-percent of high school signal callers simply can't duplicate.
