I know it would get you into UT before the Hope Scholarship stuff went in. That's what 2 of my friends had when they were accepted.

barely, and you had to have a great GPA with that. My first year at UT was 2002, and you would really be sweating getting in with a 20, if you didn't have a great GPA especially. That was pre-Hope scholarship, and UT isn't an elite school (that hurts to say).

Now with the Hope scholarship, you can absolutely forget about getting in with a 20 if you aren't an athlete or otherwise special student (musician or whatever).

Which is exactly why they are a true measure of intelligence. I know some scores will be off because of test taking anxiety, but overall they are on the money. A GPA can br misleading because of subjects taken and the fact that some teachers take athletes under their wing so to speak.
An ACT is more of a measure of pure intelligence. A persons GPA often reflects a persons study habits as well as their work ethic. Alot of times people with an extremely high ACT score flunk out in college because they have never had to develop good study habits and are just naturally intelligent.

A 20 isn't bad. Lets not look for reasons to hate on here.

It's 6 points below average at UT. In the HOPE scholarship era, that typically isn't good enough to get a non-athlete in.

Standardized tests are not a true indicator of how intelligent a person is. a 3.87 GPA is impressive, and should be viewed as such. A 20 is not a bad score, and it's not easy to take a test like the ACT or SAT.

i would tend to disagree.... i got a 21 on the ACT in sixth grade
