'12 GA RB Imani Cross (Nebraska Commit)

I think were only taking 1 OL this year so what we have on the team now is what we'll have next year.

I almost think that the coaches were so worried about Tyler getting broken in half that they focused so heavily on pass blocking and hoped the running backs could get their own yardage.

I know Cregg used a zone blocking scheme, but what is Hiestand teaching?

It looks like he's teaching the "how to get put on your @$$" scheme b/c that's where our OL spends most of the game.

I don't want to go off and say he should lose his job, but with the amount of talent at Hiestand's disposal this is ridiculous, even with the relative inexperience and the ridiculously talented Florida D-Line.

It shouldnt have took the UF game to see how pathetic our OL is, all it took was for me to see us get whipped by Montanas DL to see it.

How was it not evident during training camp? Is our D-line not good enough to challenge our O-line?

It's a scheme problem, not talent. Quit with the zone BS and tell them to decleat the guy in front of them.

I'm not convinced that Chaney knows how to properly institute a rushing scheme. It's been pitiful.

3 of those 4 Soph have a full year of SEC experience & add in a Jr, they got whooped by Montanas DL. It looks like they got worse over the summer. We might have a big OL but they are 6'6 300+ mama boys that want to play patty cake w/ the opposing DL.

The ideal linemen for zone blocking are:
•Quick, even at the cost of size.
•Disciplined, even if the assignment seems pointless.
•Consistent, not giving visual cues to the defender as to their initial intention.
•Smart, able to keep up with defensive shifts before the snap.

The ideal running backs for zone blocking rushes are:
•Disciplined, willing to do their job and not improvise.
•Decisive.
•Crisp runners - not necessarily fast, but they must have sharp cuts.
•Committed, willing to blast toward a gap that doesn't exist - yet.
•Decisive. No, really. A backfield dancer is absolutely doomed.

More than with any other position, OL needs to be developed for at least two full years before they are able to make meaningful contributions. That means that most OL should reach close to their potential their redshirt sophomore years. These guys are True sophomores, and it shows. They will get better with experience, but you can't expect these guys to skip a full year's worth of development because they got "plenty of experience" last year. That was just a bunch of young guys trying to survive. This year they are trying to progress.

The problem is they haven't progressed at all in run blocking, heck to me they have regressed in run blocking. They don't attack the defender, they let the DL come to him, you can't do that in run blocking.

Bet aost anything that Jackson and Richardson are starting. They'll the two strongest we have and can likely move people around better.

GT haha...I know the feeling.

Seriously, though. It takes time for them to gel together. More often then not, at least one of those sophs will miss their assignment like every other play. They aren't good enough yet. The potential is there.
