What stuck out at me when I first saw him in pads is that he's got nice height at 6-foot-0+ and about 210 pounds. I was expecting more bulk in the lower body, but he's pretty slender from the waist down. In the first half, he had a few nice runs in the first series gaining around 25 yards, but he was dinged up and saw little action the rest of the half. In fact, he had only five carries by halftime. If the A&M coaches left at halftime (I didn't see them in the second half but could have missed them), I wouldn't expect a quick offer.
But in the second half, the Bucs went to the Grice well early and often. If you are looking for a physical running back that can grind out yards between the tackles, Grice isn't your man. He simply doesn't have the lower body strength and leg drive to get the tough yards.
However, if you want a RB that has a jet pack on his back and can get from 0-20 in a step in open space, Grice is your man. He is very good in space. He can cut, has a nice spin move, and he can rumble downfield with anybody.
He finished with about 160 yards on 26 carries and either 2 or 3 TD's.
My final thoughts:
The issue for A&M coaches is what kind of RB do they want to compliment Christine Michael and Trey Williams next season. If they want a bigger back that can wear down a defense and get the tough yards between the tackles, I don't think Grice is your man. If you want a guy that has great acceleration, has good hands out of the backfield, and can give you some big plays in space, then Grice is your man.
