Reigarvius Williams
6'8" Freshman
Gordon College
Macon, Georgia

Once again another player we're recruiting and probably will offer, I would love to know where this other scholarship is coming from.

Anyways, has impressive numbers, I'm not too sure about level of competition though.

17.7ppg 10.3rbd 1.1blk 1.6stl 1ast 1.7to 54%fg 30% 3pt 70%ft

The shooting and rebounding numbers are very impressive. Seems like a big man who can step out and probably hit the 3, and is a good rebounder.

This from today:
“@Coast2CoastHoop: Per his coach, Jarvis Williams a big man from Gordon College (JUCO) picked up a UConn offer today. Tennesee will be in to watch him today.”

“@Coast2CoastHoop: Gordon JUCO (GA) forward Jarvis Williams lists Tennessee, Arkansas, Memphis, UConn, Tennessee State and more.”

First video is a workout clip. Holy explosive leaper, definitely knows how to finish at the rim and i love that in a big man. Definitely a sweet shooting stroke as well...

Second video, highlights from a couple games. This guy is an athlete, at 6'8" can bring it up the court, has a nice touch, and is a quick leaper. Once again, not too sure about competition, but he looks like he'd be a solid addition, especially for next season.

BTO I am with you in that I don't know where we are going to find another schollie. But I guess Coach Martin has a plan. I wish we could be enlightened somehow on that. I know that there could be some options but I am curious to know who would be let go or whatever.

From Jarvis' game today:

“@Andrevius: Lots of coaches in the gym 3, including Tennessee and UCONN many eyes on Jarvis Williams of Gordon #SHReport”

“@CoachKWatkins: 6'8" Jarvis Williams just showed his versatility by stepping out to guard a pg then retreated back to block 6'7" post player #SHReport”

That may be a typo on the kid being a '12 recruit. If he's just a freshman, I don't think he can play in the SEC. Believe a JUCO has to have an Associate's degree to qualify for the SEC. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing he's really a '13 guy.

I was under the impression if you go to juco for reasons other than academic you can transfer to a d1 school after 1 year. It's if you go to juco because you couldn't qualify, see Chris jones, that you have to stay for atleast 2 years.

I thought it was that you had to graduate JUCO. Alot of people going to JUCO for non academic reasons are able to graduate in one year and therefore can come after one year. Could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time

I believe he was right on the one year if non academic. Iirc, we had a football player that did that. Was it Simms or Gouche maybe?

I'm not sure, Ive been looking and can't find a definitive answer. Regular students can no question that part is clear, it's the athlete part I'm unsure of. I seem to remember awhile back this same discussion and finding out that if you didn't go because of academics you could leave after one year.

Yeah, I think you are thinking about Simms. That was who I was thinking about as well, and remember Hubbs saying that he came after one because he was already able to graduate JUCO

But he was at Louisville first so he'd been taking 2 years of classes, so is that different than going straight to juco??

After I posted I rembered it was not Simms, because he went to Louisville first. It was someone who went straight to Juco, because he did not have offer he wanted.

I actually I looked and it looks like it was Rivera who originally signed with Oregon, but went Juco and had three years to play here.

Well I guess there's the answer.

With that said could still be 2013, either way, someone to keep an eye on.

Coach Martin quoted as saying we had several highly regarded transfer prospects that wanted to come to UT but we simply had no scholarships available...I'm not convinced that CCM is from the camp of running off good people to make room for a bunch of talented transfers...now I'm sure if he could do it without creating a lot of bad feels etc...he would take one...just my thoughts on that...

Uhm not saying your wrong, but could you provide that quote? And could you enlighten me to who these "several highly regarded transfers" were?

I've never seen that, and seeing as how they recently offered a scholarship for the 2012 class that'd kind of refute that...

BTO there is an article on GoVolsXtra and Martin is quoted as saying that in the article. It was posted earlier today by Mike Strange. Yes Martin was quoted as saying that they have turned away several highly regarded transfers because they didn't have scholarships available.

This is all he says:

"There were several more who wanted to be a part of our program, some really good ones,'' Martin said, "but I didn't have any scholarships available.''

And that was in response to a question about last years team, so I'm not sure that he wasn't referring to last year, and not this year.

As I said, recent scholarships have been offered or were going to be for 2012, so that kind of refutes this.
