How about if we open the season with 7? 4 are on roster as of now.

STARTER IF VOLS PLAYED TODAY: Sophomore Jalen Hurd.

UP NEXT FOR NOW: Sophomore Alvin Kamara, sophomore walk-on Jayson Sparks, freshman walk-on Kendrick Turner.

COMING THIS SUMMER: Three-star athlete signee John Kelly from Michigan is scheduled to enroll this summer and will be a running back at Tennessee, and he’s likely to be joined by fifth-year senior transfer Ralph David Abernathy IV from the University of Cincinnati and also potentially by uncommitted three-star running back prospect Joseph Young from South Carolina.

Sparks, Turner, Young? Come on those are bodies for practice not SEC running backs. No offense to them I'm sure they know where they stand.

We essentially do have three SEC level runners in the backfield in AK, Hurd, and Dobbs....

But I still don't feel good about it. And are people really expecting RDIV to do something in the backfield? Not a chance. And Bruce is a DB and Perry is a slot WR.

and pretty sure John Kelly was used like something resembling Percy Harvin in high school right? He still had to learn to play RB.

Bunch of Chicken Littles in here. We are better off at running back this year than we were last year by far. I'm not expecting anyone except Hurd and Kamara to play much more than a few plays a game. If one goes down the other one will carry the load the way Hurd did last year. If both go down we are screwed no matter who is back there.

So it's impossible for those guys to grow into SEC running backs? Wow, that's news.

Of course it's possible but it's extremely unlikely. Besides that the discussion was running backs ready to step in this season. Two of those are walk ons that were not recruited by anyone. The other one Young is a 2 star that nobody recruited and he isn't even part of the team and no guarantee he will be.
