Offer list: UAB, Stanford, USF, Penn State, V Tech, UCF, Miami, Georgia

Told scout tennessee has been on him lately, but hasn't yet offered. Listed Tennessee along with Miami, Stanford, UCF and Penn State.

Scout @ recent knoxvegas tournament:

Schulyer Rimmer, C, Q6 All-Stars – One of the more intriguing post players in the class, Rimmer has good hands, pretty good strength, and runs the floor well. He isn’t super explosive but he will do all of the dirty work and has a nice touch with either hand. High-majors are already showing a lot of attention, and his list will likely get longer before it gets shorter.

Quick Take:Rimmer has gotten bigger and stronger in the past year and it showed with his ability to rebound much better than he has shown in the past. He has good hands and doesn’t bring the ball down which is a good thing. Also he is more than capable of hitting the mid-range jumper. Not a great athlete, he gets it done with savvy and basketball IQ.

I'll make the stars-related post. It seems that we can expect a steady diet of 3* signees with the occasional splash of a 4 or 5. At least, that will keep the program afloat.

IMO...

CCM seems to be going after quite a few 4&5 stars for the 2013 class. Unfortunately, we are going to be in desperate need of post men it would appear. So CCM seems to Br really targeting quite a few posts to guarantee that we don't completely whiff if say the big name posts go elsewhere.

Case in point, Rimmer isn't highly rated, but CCM probably feels he'd be a viable option. I like to look at offer lists to get an idea more than stars sometimes, and Rimmers offer list already is pretty impressive.

Once again, jmo.

I can name maybe 10-15 schools that this isn't the norm. For a school that has never even made a final four, people sure have high expectations about recruiting.

I understand where you're coming from with your post.
However, I don't mean to imply that CCM is a 'bad' recruiter, or that a bunch of lengthy 3s will kill our roster. It's more about where the bar was set for a few years. My post was a quick quip caused by me having to adjust to the new state of the program.

I'm not putting a former coach on a pedestal either. He raised the bar but then put us into our current state. It felt like a Final Four was on the eventual horizon, and the rug was suddenly pulled out.

All of that is why I'm blankly staring at our current classes, while appreciating the efforts of the current staff.

Yeah, that makes sense. Hopefully, some success on the court next season will help the staff get in on some really good ones. If only it were as easy as a video game.

i think next year is pivotal, solely because of what you just said.

many recruits took notice, thornwell being one of them talking about it in a recent video interview, that CCM did an incredible job this year. if he improves on it, and brings tennessee back into the tournament next year that will really help out with the 2013 class.

If that's what we need, then hopefully some of our top targets who are leaning elsewhere, if any, will not sign in November.

Pearl's recruiting was suspect as well. He landed some good classes but he also took some chances on guys that didn't pan out in the long run. It's no good recruiting a 4* or 5* guy if they don't stick around, going to the NBA excepted. Ramar, Duke, Jurrick, West, Tabb and Johnson all left early (or never played at all) for one reason or another. Pearl took chances on some high rated guys, so the class looked good when signed, but a year or 2 later, you would have been better off just signing a 3 star guy that stuck around.

its a catch 22, you want some of them to sign early because that also can help you with other recruits. nichols is someone that wants to sign early, but i dont think that he really is impacted by what we do next year.

thornwell is a kid who appears like he will wait until later in the year so that'll give us an opportunity.

A lot of kids sign in the early period so next season won't be a factor for them. Hopefully the landing of Stokes, the good buzz around the program at the end of last year, and Coach Martin's strong presence will convince some of the bigger named kids to come on board.

Yeah, there were a lot of highly-rated players who were either complete busts or were gone after a short time here for something other than improving their basketball prospects. But, the overall buzz was much better. I hope that when I'm old and gray, I'm not looking back at the Pearl era as the golden age of UT basketball.

I was a teenager when Devoe was here and they ran him out. What followed was almost 20 years of :bash::spank::banghead2::mf_surrender::furious3: and :puke5: . So I understand your fears. I think Martin is much better than what preceded Pearl. I think, at the least, he can get us back to regular sweet 16's.

We opened our new arena with Wade Houston and an awful AD who sold rival merchandise inside it.

Regular Sweet 16s would be nice. It would mean we are annually close enough to the Final Four to see it. We'd eventually break through.

“@Coast2CoastHoop: Tennessee's Cuonzo Martin and sophomore forward Jarnell Stokes saw '13 Q6 All Stars (FL) F Schuyler Rimmer's game on Saturday morning.”

“@Coast2CoastHoop: With that being said, it looks like Tennessee is making a strong push for Schuyler Rimmer. Expect them to be on him strongly until the end.”

Whats up with jarnell doing some recruiting? He was also checking out Nichols and hubbs today as well.
