'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Im not going to lie, this signing was a huge deal. Im assuming he will be clear to get in since we didnt pass like we did with Brown.

Barton Simmons

“I think if Gavin Bryant was a no-doubt grades guy throughout the process, I think he’s a guy we’re talking about in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and getting all kinds of the hype that a lot of these guys get,” Simmons said. “I think just because he has some question marks in the classroom, he flew under the radar. But turn on his film, and that dude is a headhunter. He’s a heat-seeking missile. I love the way he plays, and he’s a guy that his name hasn’t been brought up to the same level that the majority of this class has. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he’s one of the top guys, if he actually gets on campus.” Shurburtt and Simmons both said they expect Tennessee’s class to make an immediate and significant impact on the program.

High praise. Guardedly excited about this kid... probably been asked as nauseam, but what is the grades situation here? Is it wait and see with the NCAA clearinghouse?
I haven't seen an update on grades in a couple months, at least not in this thread. Fingers crossed. :crossfingers:

VQ mods have said he had a really good fall semester and is on track to be fine as long as he doesn't have anymore bumps. I get the impression as long as he has a good spring he won't have any trouble getting admitted.

Really? It's not like they were trying to "break" news on him.

They haven't hyped him up all year. If Bama had offered the kid all that same talk would've went on in August. This board has been saying what they wrote for months....... Like I said nothing new and not a shot at you for bringing the info man. I'm just tired of seeing people on this board believe these dudes when this board has posters that are better than most of these site analysts. We just don't get paid for the info.

We've got a HANDFUL of posters on here who bring more insight than those "dudes". 247 has him as a 4 star since October, so that's better than Rivals can say. At the very least, they are good at encapsulating scouting reports and presenting their thoughts to us in a nice format- nothing at all wrong with that. Some of them have actually scouted the prospects and done their homework. :peace2:

Boom! Totally agree.

When we were lamenting the IL LB that chose LSU, you asked all of us if we would take him over Bryant, that you thought Gavin was better. I went back and looked closer at what I could find and there was no doubt Gavin was better. The primary reasons I saw were that he read the plays faster and he was quicker to the ball, coming in low and squared up much of the time. Then a number of other posters started looking closer and it was like, OMG, we have got to get his kid in school!

The concern on getting in school was the only reason I could see that he was not getting hyped by the services. Which probably worked in our favor. Now they can hype all they want, just don't act like they are the first to know. Like you, I trust a lot folks on here more than I trust those guys.

So he made it in academically? No problems?
He's still in school right now as are the rest that aren't on campus at UT. If he does well this semester he's going to be fine is the consensus. Well this semester probably meaning 2.5-3.0 GPA for this semester without any F's
