I know.

Releford is better than Lacey.

Well, I think that could be debatable. But, still, when your debatable first or second best player left, then there is still a problem.

Grant had or tried to use Lacey as a PG for some time, and Lacey is clearly not a PG.

How is it debatable?

Releford was First Team All-SEC last season and averaged 14.9 points very efficiently (47.6 FG%, 40.7 3%). He was also on the All-Defensive team.

Lacey averaged 11.3 points (39.2 FG%, 37.3 3%). He did average slightly more assists than Releford (3.2 to 2.5), but Releford didn't turn the ball over as much (2.3 to 1.8). Lacey isn't much of a defender.

I'd honestly rather have Levi Randolph than Trevor Lacey. Lacey isn't too dissimilar from Golden. Lacey is more of a shooter while Golden does most of his damage inside the lane, but still... They're both strongly-built combo-guards who can score and play PG if needed, but also struggle defensively.

But you're right that it's never a good thing to have key players transfer out. I do think Alabama will be fine, though (just as Tennessee will be fine without Golden).

I was just about to post the same thing. They are very similar, with Lacey being a better perimeter shooter and Trae a better penetrator (insert Jenny Wright joke here...TWSS).

Really can't argue with it. That is why I said it could be debatable. I think Lacey is a good player who would excel better in an uptempo style. Probably why he got out. I know his TO's aren't great, but he is clearly not a PG (like Golden). IMO, he is better than Randolph- better shooter, I think.

I think Lacey is more built for a grind-it-out offense than an up-tempo one, honestly. He's not the quickest of guards and isn't exactly explosive around the rim.

He cited player development as the reason he left Bama but then decided to transfer to NC State and Gottfried. Confusing.
