"I just spoke with 2014 QB Austin Herink out of Cleveland (Tenn.) High School and will have an update on him sometime tomorrow. He's already heard from and interacted with the Vols' new coaching staff, as offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian dropped by Cleveland on Friday and then Herink was on the UT campus Sunday."

Saw him play. Guy looks good firing it from the pocket but can move as well. His receivers dropped a lot of passes.

One by one, this new staff is not only working on this years class, but next year and beyond. CBJ wanting it.

"Coach Bajakian was actually at the school on Friday and Sunday I was at the Lady Vols' game, so I stopped by to see him Sunday and got to meet coach Jones and most of the staff. That was a pretty good experience," Herink said. "It's a completely new staff. I got to know the last staff pretty good from camping up there for two years, and I'd been up to several games.

"This staff has got a lot of energy and the facilities are amazing. The new weight room and all that stuff is just unreal."

While it is early in the recruiting process for Herink, he said he was honored to spend time with the Vols' new staff and be a prospect that they wanted to take a closer look at.

"Definitely, growing up in East Tennessee it's every kid's dream to play for Tennessee. I didn't know if this staff was going to recruit me or not or show any interest, but when Coach Bajakian sent me a hand-written letter I thought 'Wow! Maybe this staff is going to be interested.' I tried to call him but he actually called my high school coach to tell he was going to come down and see me at school. It was a good experience. I'm really excited that they're showing interest. Hopefully if everything would work out I could play at Tennessee one day, but it's definitely an honor that they're even showing interest in me knowing it would be my dream place to play."

I noticed that there seems to be some discrepancies on his height/weight. I looked at 3 different sites and they show 6-1 198, 6-2 175, and 6-2 216. All seem to agree he is not the fleetest of foot at 5.05-5.2 40 times. Not sure he would move well enough for the ideal QB for CBJ's system. Yes, I know he said he could adjust it if needed.

Austin is 6' 2" and 216 lbs. The other size & weights are from older camps his Freshman & Sophomore years. His current 40 time is 4.95-5.02.

Thanks for the info. Always good to have a local to provide the scoop on recruits. Look forward to seeing how the kids season goes.

This is from The Rivals.com/VTO Sports Elite 100 in South Carolina last April.

Austin made their list of standouts...

AUSTIN HERINK, QB, CLEVELAND, TENN, 2014
Herink played behind a U.S. Army All-American quarterback in Chad Voytik each of the last two seasons so he hasn't been able to do much on the field, but at camps and combines he shines and now he has a chance for a huge junior year. He is physically well build, has a strong arm and his accuracy was good for the most part. He has a bit of a windup at times on his delivery, but overall he has a chance to be the second D-I quarterback out of his school in a two-year span if he continues to develop.

Can a mod fix his name please? When I created the thread I saw his name in a tweet. Apparently the source had auto-correct and changed his name. I don't want Herink to feel slighted b/c a dumbass (me) didn't get it right.

So you are the reason I couldn't use "Clevelander", heh... glad really as I needed to add VOL into the mix anyhow. I've been suprised by the amount of us Clevelanders on VN.
