First of all, fades do not win ball games. Secondly, you have to have a line that will give a qb enough time for the deep ball. Next year I guarantee you see more succes with the deeper throws
The same formula won the NC this year as it has most years: success running the ball and good defense. Not the fade or deep ball. Running with success consistently opens the field for deep passes.
Ohio St hit quite a few deep passes against Ala, Wisc and Oregon. With the ability to hit a few deep passes opens up the run game and short passing game. That was UT's prob against Mizzou and Vandy. We couldn't hit anything deep so we struggled running and with the intermediate passing and the swing passes didn't work because they didn't respect Dobbs downfield threat. Ohio St didn't start hitting Ala with big runs until Jones started burning their secondary with deeper passes. After he did that it opened the run game more and it was over then.
