A new name popped up on the offensive line board recently as the Vols offered former Virginia Tech commitment Fred Johnson. While he's told some that the Vols may receive a visit, we caught up with him earlier this week and he said the only visit he knows for sure at this time is Miami on Jan. 16.
We strongly believe the Canes are the team to beat here and while he told he wasn't sure of other visits as of now, we think it may be an upset if any other team lands an official from Johnson next month besides Miami.
Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) offensive tackle Fredrick Johnson has had a visit to Miami scheduled for January 16 for several days. The 6-foot-7, 285-pound prospect has added two more trips. He will visit Florida on January 23 and Tennessee on January 30.
Johnson admits the local Hurricanes have the lead in his recruitment with Florida sitting in second and the Vols rounding out his top three. Johnson also admitted a commitment to the Hurricanes could possibly come after that official visit to Coral Gables.
247Sports currently rates Johnson a three-star prospect with an 83 grade.
Will Johnson and St. Louis' decisions affect each other? It looks like they're considering the same schools.
Things might get interesting if he keeps his scheduled official visit to us the last weekend before signing day. Will the Canes get a commitment from him today? Miami is a dumpster fire right now. The sports radio talking heads down here are bashing Golden left and right. Is Johnson listening? Is he a take for us regardless or is he just a fall back option if we miss on the other OLs?
