Ft Myers is Hurricane and Seminole territory.

Not when I was growing up, it was a little UM and mostly UF. The problem with so much of FL is the fanbases fluctuate depending on who's winning. But UF will always be the dominant fanbase because it's THE state university and UM will always be the most fickle.

When did you grow up? Has not been Florida since the 90's.

Holland and Coney bout to pop bruh.

2 Flips will happen. Chump flips min of 2 each cycle. A&M worried their 5* is coming back home to Fla.

Soon.

Just watch how things fall next month.

Recruiting is a marathon.

Why are people thinking UF is not going to have a great class and a good season? I hate UF but I would be very shocked it they don't end up with a top 10 class.

Mudchump would be heavily criticized if he didn't. It's an expectation at that school.

I'm sure recruiting will be fine but good season? Because they went 4-8 last year and now have some new assistants implementing new schemes. We all saw how well that works in year 1. They also have a really tough schedule. 7-5 if they're lucky, IMO.

Born in Ft. Myers in 1985 and grew up 20 miles away in Hendry County, until moving away in 2007. My family's been in the area for 4 generations when they came down from the Panhandle.

Outside of a few guys (Church and Graham), I can't think of many.

I went to Venice Highschool and was born before you.

Never quite understood any of Florida's recruiting success. Their facilities are sub-par and Gainesville is a dump.

Sits near Orlando and Tampa which are talent rich. Do well in Pinellas, Sarasota, Manatee, and Polk as well.

I think it's weird why they get Palm Beach kids.

I guess not too weird since Florida State owns the muck.

They won several championships not too long ago, and it's been the main in state school in the recent past. FSU, just a few years ago, was not good at all. But success is cyclical.

However, Gainesville is a dump. Too bad that doesn't play a huge factor in recruiting.

To be precise, my family hails from Clewiston and Belle Glade (my grandfather's uncle actually coined the name Belle Glade and my grandfather grew up there). I grew up in both Clewiston and LaBelle so I'm very familiar with the Muck.

FSU has had a presence in the Muck starting with Bolden, and it's mostly Pahokee. Before that it was all UF and is mostly UF to this day. Glades Central leans heavily UF with UM sprinkled in. Reidel Anthony, Fred Taylor (and Jr), Jimmy Spencer, Ray McDonald (and Jr) Deonte Thompson, Johnny Rutledge, Louis Oliver, Rhondy Weston, Willie Snead III, Janoris Jenkins, all Muck guys that ended up at UF over the last 25 yrs.

As you know the Muck is purely agricultural and UF is the ag school. Most of these kids parents work in the sugar and vegetable industry for UF alums, which heavily influence their decisions. It was heavily rumored that Reidel Anthony's mom received some extra benefits from her employer for him ending up at UF. The "Bull Gator" donors in that area have major pull and control many of these kids parents futures/careers.

Excellent post. Now I see your point. They got Leon Orr also. I'll be in Clewiston for a mud run in January.

The Muck has been really good to the Big 3. Truly sad to see whats happened to both programs after decades of success.

What's caused it HG? Has the quality of kids gone down, poor coaching, folks getting out of there etc? I remember when Coach Morrell retired from Clewiston there was an instant drop off in on field production purely from the coaching change. Since his retirement in 01 or 02 they've had some success sprinkled in but the program hasn't been the same.

2006 was the last truly dominant year for the Muck programs, when all 4 made it to state and Clewiston was the only loss of the 4 and that was in triple OT. Amazing that 4 schools all within 30 miles of each other and serving a population of less than 50k could be that dominant.

Combination of the things you listed. Different type of kids growing up there now who see the streets as the way out vs sports. It was truly something special watching the talent coming out of that area. I would put their All time team vs any in the nation.

Apparently George Campbell didnt get the memo about flood gate leading him to the gators. Since it appears he is headed to FSU soon

He was the one 5* that I left off. Been trending that way since Joker resigned.Blake said Fla hadn't really talked to him bc they are waiting to see if everything is on the up and up with NCAA. In the meantime FSU took advantage. 4 of 5 instate 5* ain't bad imo. Again hard to sell UF offensively vs FSU. We'll get CeCe, Cowart, Holland and Ivey.
