Georgia Showcase: Recruiting Notebook

A trio of schools - Tennessee, Duke and Marshall - recently offered Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern defensive back T.J. Rahming. The versatile playmaker had a good camp performance Sunday and is being recruited as both a defensive back and a slot receiver. While he's keeping his options open, Rahming did says that he feels like Tennessee could be the place for him. With a visit coming up early next month, the Vols might be in good shape to land 5-foot-10 speedster. Rahming will also be on campus at Auburn next weekend and said that he believes the Tigers could be the next school to offer.

This.

I understand an occasional change-up screen to keep the D off balance, but speed kills. Guys like this should be running slants, crossing, streaks, etc. That's a scheme/play calling issue with Jake that I hope gets corrected next season.

You call screens against aggressive defenses because its a quick easy pass, gets your playmakers in open space, and keeps the defense in check. You cant run it every play, but if you run it enough to where they have to respect it, it can open up other play calls (ex. When oregon went for it on 4th and 6 and our guy bit on the fake screen and the score a TD).

Both have the speed. TJ looks to have a slight edge in catching ability but newsomes kick returning is filthy. Man I'd love to see teams fear kicking to us again. I wish we had a db that could do it like terry fair or dale carter... I always liked the db's who got a chance to handle the ball... It was like they knew it was precious and and made the most of it
