Even though he's committed to Penn State, schools continue to chase after ESPN 300 defensive tackle Adam McLean of Gaithersburg (Maryland) Quince Orchard, and his coach sees every day why. “He's about 290 and he's 6-1, but he moves like he's 240, which is good,” Quince Orchard coach John Kelley said about McLean, who will visit Penn State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and is also considering Texas and Texas A&M. “He doesn't move like that big 290-pound nose that kind of just sits there and eats up space. He can get flat and get down the line of scrimmage and make a play. I think he's 3-technique on the next level. We play him as a zero just because in high school football he's going up against somebody he can dominate, but I think he projects as a three. He's the type of dude, the guard pulls, he can hip pocket the guard and get right in the backfield for the tackle for a loss. He's got such a quick read and quick first step.”
Year-in and year-out Hyattsville (Maryland) DeMatha Catholic is one of the top-talent producing programs in the East, but coach Elijah Brooks says his 2016 class is something special. DeMatha has four players on the ESPN Junior 300 list led by Penn State defensive end pledge Shane Simmons, who Brooks described as a “freak of nature.” But offensive tackle J.P. Urquidez, offensive guard Terrance Davis and receiver Tino Ellis are also getting heavily recruited and running back Lorenzo Harrison has already committed to Maryland. “This is a special group,” Brooks said. “A one of a kind type group. All of those kids are really good kids and they bring their hard hats every day. I think our kids do a great job of understanding when they come here to DeMatha, it's the program first. There have been many guys that have been successful, but tradition is what got us to where we are, and it's their job to uphold it no matter how many offers you have.”
