You can never discount the appeal to play in the SEC for some of these prospects. Kids know the SEC is an NFL factory. This could be the exact offer he & Weber were looking for. Rarely do package deals work out but this would be a welcomed exception. Does anyone know Kelly & Weber's relation? Friends?
Could very well play out that way. Stacking up kids at one position in one class is looked at differently by some. Just have to see what Bussey does. I think UT taking Kelly opens the door for Bussey to flip. JMO
"Kelly was an athlete before he was a football player. Early in his recruitment the question was, where on the field do you put him? During his junior year most coaches saw that being at defensive back, but by the end of his senior season it was obviously Kelly needed the football in his hands.
"Physically he is built like a running back at 5-foot-10 and 191 pounds, and that is where he has played for Oak Park. He is also a guy who can flash into the slot, catch passes and run the jet sweep. As a runner, though, he has the style to be successful in between the tackles. He has very good balance and is always falling forward."
When it comes to the running back position, it gives Tennessee another option at a position that is in great need of depth. Hurd is the lone returning scholarship tailback from this past season and Alvin Kamara is on campus after transferring from junior college.
If the Vols can hold on to Kendall Bussey down the stretch, the trio of Kamara, Bussey and Kelly will all have opportunities to contribute next year.
And with Bussey coming off an injury, Kelly may have the inside track to being the third running back in the rotation.
Tennessee needed another tailback as signing day crept closer and they were able to get Kelly after his visit and that's a big deal.
