'15 NC RB Akease Rankin

He could very well be someone that bUTch found, like he found Mosely. Mosely made huge progress in the summer and gained strength and size.

Remember, we recruited the running back from Texas , Ontario Smith, but his friend tagged along. His friend was D. Moore. Fulmer often joked with him and told him if it wasn't for your friend, you never would have been here. Fulmer found a diamond in the rough.

Remember how Sanders was in San Diego to recruit someone and he noticed A. Foster. A. Foster came but the other target didn't come to U.T.

Ya never know what a coach sees in a certain player that other coaches are missing.

I think the running back stable will be awfully crowded though. Hurd, Paulk, Scott, Kamara, Rankin. Two of them will end up being the odd men out.

Urban legend....D.Moore had offers from Oklahoma, Florida, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Missouri etc. Fulmer would have taken D. Moore with or without Creer but they did want to play together.

Mooresville, NC isn't exactly a hotbed for college football recruiting. I can't remember there being too much talent to come out of that area in the past 5-6 years. South Iredell won a state title, but it was in 2A and I don't think that was because of any superstars on the team. Lake Norman High was historically terrible. Mooresville Senior High is consistently mediocre in their conference.

The best player (as far as I know) from Mooresville Senior High was J.R. Sweezy. He wasn't highly recruited out of high school, played DT for NC State and is now a starting OG for the Seahwaks.

That being said, this kid's film doesn't look bad. I'm not crazy about his running form and he's not SEC fast, but he could be a decent RB recruit elsewhere. If he was willing to walk-on I'd be happy to have Akease on the roster. I just highly doubt he could contribute at Tennessee.

We don't have time or space for projects. No offense to the kid but for crying out loud...if we're not gonna take Reid, that better mean we're in on Love, Frasier, the Nashville kid that's currently blowing up or some other elite RB, not some kid with a good work ethic who tries real hard.

Akease Rankin's (Mooresville, NC) High School Football Stats

The best player on one of Mooresville's best teams is Rankin, who is thickly muscled and looks like a college upperclassman. It's hard to believe he's that same scrawny ninth-grader.

"Some of the older kids told me I wasn't good," said Rankin, who's gained 60 pounds since his freshman year. "A lot of people told me I wasn't the most athletic person and I was getting a lot of hate. I started trying to get better to prove to them that I could do this, I could be something more."

It started with 300 pushups and 300 sit-ups every night. Then it was running hills until his chest felt like it was about to explode. Then it was lifting weights every day for hours. Capps said Rankin is the hardest-working player he's coached in 30 years. He remembers how Rankin took a barbell with 185 pounds of additional weight from the floor to chest level, a power clean, 200 times.

"He wasn't going to stop," Capps said. "He doesn't have God's greatest gifts. He's not the fastest. He's not the biggest, but he will outwork you."

Rankin, 17, also is also motivated by his opponents. Last year, for instance, he was hit so hard against West Rowan that his helmet flew off and both his contact lenses popped out. He spent the offseason working harder to assure that doesn't happen again.

"I was determined to not be the receiver of that hit," he said. "I wanted to give it."

I am pretty sure 4.5 in a 40 is pretty dam fast guys! And watch his film again he hits the hole pretty darn fast to me.

The main thing is does he have the right height? Yes
Does he have the right Weight? He is close at around 200. Needs 20 more pds.
What is his speed? 4.5 not a blaze but not bad either
DOES HE BREAK TACKLES? YES ---this is the key and what we should be looking for in a RB.

The last one is why we don't have RB's like Georgia or Alabama or USCe every year!!!!
And because of this Rocky Ried is a take any day of the week! He is what we should be looking for! These Scat Backs that go down on the first tackle or a blade of grass has got to go. Sure they are fast but so are the DB's in SEC. Show me a team in the SEC that is productive with a Scat Back!!! A 1000 yd back?

Does no one remember us getting cut to pieces by Mccluster, Demps, and Rainey?

Even Pead gashed us.

If you have a solid offensive line, scat backs with speed can take it to the house. You need a mixture of speed and power to be a dominant team.

A buddy made me drive through "downtown" Mooresville one time on the way home from Charlotte, hungover as hell, to go to Whattaburger for a fountain Cherry Lemon Sundrop. We got there and it was closed (Sunday).

CSB?

I'm sorry. That's a monumental waste of time. Hardly anyone from Mooresville goes to that What-a-Burger.
