'15 TN ATH Jocquez Bruce (UT commit 6/17/14)

Maybe it's because we hear the same from you over and over in multiple threads even threads that do not pertain to Bruce all it is "he'll get recruited over" or "I just don't think he's that good" but I've never seen you mention exactly why you think that what in his game are you so unimpressed with that you need to take shots at him again in multiple threads so please enlighten us.

Joc got injured last game against Carter. From where we were sitting it looked like his ankle got rolled up on at the goal line. Didn't look too serious, just thought Id share. He left the game and returned on crutches.

Yeah I seen that and the worst part of it was that a couple of plays before they had punched it in from the 3 but a dumb block in the back penalty made them have to do it again and that's when he got hurt.

Yeah its all about the stars form me. I guess that's why I liked Sutton and really like Reid. Get over yourself. I don't hate the kid. I just don't think he is that good. You do realize that coaches sometimes accept commitments from players that they know will not work out right? You do know sometimes coaches tell committed players to go elsewhere right? I am not saying it will happen. But it could.

I don't think we could do this to him. Bruce wanted the offer too bad to rip it away from him a few months later. I understand how recruiting works and some commits will be asked to move on but this case is different. Knowing how Bruce feels about UT, he should never have been offered if his spot came with that asterisk.

Why would the coaches accept a commitment from a player they know will not work out? I have never heard of that and it seems to to against every thinks that is recruiting. Every single spot is valuable. Obviously wvary recruit is not going to pan out but why would they take one knowing they weren't going to?

Please explain why someone who just doesn't think someone is that good is automatically a stargazer? Bruce is classified as an ATH, the same as Newsome. Now I have watched some film on both and I think Newsome is the much better player. That doesn't make me a stargazer. You people need to get a grip and stop using the stargazer excuse to criticize people who different opinions than you do.

In the interest of being objective: yes, Newsome is better than Bruce. That's not a slight to Joc; I just think Newsome is one of the more impressive playmakers in the country.

Having said that, I've seen the Devrin Young comparisons for Bruce and I don't agree with them. This kid has balance that Young does not. Devrin has no balance - it's why he goes down on first contact and the turf monster gets him whenever he tries to cut.

Joc Bruce does not have that problem. He is slippery - very good quickness and vision. He'll make people miss and he will run out of weak tackles. Despite the big hit that was all over ESPN, I prefer him on offense in a scat back role - I think you want to get the ball in his hands because he can make things happen.

Joc can help us.

Watching his hudl film he is listed as a RB/DB. I will go off of that. As a RB he has good speed and decent cut back abilities. However comparing him to our other RB's he just doesn't seem to be on the same level.

As a DB, again he has good closing speed. It also seems he has some decent hands as well. Again though comparing him to other DB we have committed and on the roster, I just don't think he is on their level.

So sorry but that is why I am just unimpressed with him. It has nothing to do with his ranking or star level. Miller is a 3* DB, the same as Bruce, but I think Miller's game is better. Not saying that it is a major determining factor but look at the offer lists between the two.

So Bruce is not going to play RB here. Highly doubtful he plays WR. Especially if CBJ can flip Jefferson or get Newsome (no guarantees). Even missing out on those guys we have Wharton to play the slot. So that leaves the possibility of DB. We are recruiting guys like Martin, Abernathy and Brazil. I just don't think he is on either of those guys level. So where does he really fit in?

So that's why I am unimpressed with him. I am comparing him to guys we already have and one we have good shots at getting. I would like to know if you honestly feel Bruce looks any better than anyone we are recruiting for the positions he is listed to play at. Having said all of that, I have been wrong a lot more times than right. So who knows. I hope that clarifies things.

I worded that the wrong way, my bad. What I should have said is sometimes coaches accept commitments and then ask players to look elsewhere. A coach could accept a commitment from a player, yet later down the road the coaching staff evaluates another player at that same position. They then feel that the new player is a better fit for the team. The original committed player could be recruited over. It happens. Not saying it WILL happen but it could.

I agree as well. No way he plays WR here with the talent this staff can pull. I think Bruce is pretty quick, but it's hard to judge his true talent. I think he can play nickel CB here. You don't need top end speed to play nickel CB, and I think he's quick enough to be effective in this role. Should be a very good special teams player for us as well, which is a big deal considering three years ago we couldn't stop anyone on special teams. We dont see eye to eye on somethings on this board, but I believe your stance here is well served. I have thought the same from day 1, but he's a VOL so he's got my support.

Kid just posted "man I have to stop looking at my volnation page" stop degrading the kid and saying you'd rather have this one or that one, trust in this staffs evaluations

Mr. Bruce, don't listen to some of these morons who post on volnation. Bottom line, people who know much more about football offered you and you expressed a desire to be a VFL! Keep the faith, in more ways than one, and prove the doubters wrong! You have my respect!

Surely he doesn't. I'm sure he just sticks to AOL instant messenger and associated chat rooms on AOL.

I prefer MSN messenger.

But really, what I like the most about Joc is how much he wants to be a Vol. Sometimes, those kinds of players end up working out better regardless of rating. The kid is a hard worker and a heck of an athlete.

Keep doing what you do, Joc, if you do decide to read your thread again.

Joc,

Don't listen to keyboard nerds on here that know nothing about football. If they did, they wouldn't be on a message board. If Butch Jones wants you, that's all I need to know. Ball out young man
