I listen to a short segment every weekday morning called "INKspirations" to get my mind focused for the day. If anyone on here has not had the opportunity to listen to INKY speak in the mornings, its truly motivational stuff. I loved him instantly when he took the field as a freshman. I remember sitting next to my father in section Z11. I saw #29 at DB making play after play. I remember saying "dad, Inquoris johnson looks like a diamond in the rough."

Enough reminiscing and rambling but long story short, you truly don't know what you have until you give kids like Michael Lacey and Inky Johnson a shot.

Ditto. I had the pleasure of hearing Inky speak in person. He is probably to most amazing and motivational speaker I have ever heard. I bought his book and could not put it down. His life is A truly amazing story and he is a big time VFL.

My favorite part about this pick-up is that we are building more of a connection to MBA. Some good players coming out of there. Hope getting him on board helps with them.

I was watching "The U, pt 2" a few nights ago. They started talking about how Butch Davis had to flip the roster and turn every stone to find players. I was impressed when they offered Santana Moss a track scholarship and a chance to walk onto the football team. I thought, "Man, that is what made Miami so good then! They had some of their best kids as walk ons."
It seems Butch JONES is doing the same. He was in a hole roster wise when he arrived. Now he is leaving no stone (or brick I should say) unturned. Go Vols!

Walk ins like this can be difficult to hold on to. He may end up getting a late offer from a descent school

Hasn't he been offered by Kentucky? You have to think that he will have the state scholarship and probably gets Payne's scholarship next fall.

A lot of times these guys will get "conditional offers" and go on telling recruiting services they've been offered...because technically it's true...I think that's what he received in this case. P. Fort mentioned he had several "small school" offers, I do not think UK is small school in this sense - as hard as that is to believe :)

"I didn't really get as many looks as I wanted to, and UT was a school that I wanted to go to for college anyway," Lacey said. "I talked to (MBA assistant Jamie) Redmond and talked to my parents about it. I told them that was the school I really wanted to go to, and the fact that they offered me as a preferred walk-on to play football, that enhanced the reasons for me wanting to go there."

..."He made so many plays for us this year in the kicking game," MBA coach Marty Euverard said. "On offense he was a hybrid; played a little bit of tailback and a little bit of slot back, and he really came on at the end of the year at corner. He started playing real physical. If he continues to stay in the weight room and keeps the speed he's got, he can do some things."

MBA's Michael Lacey to walk with on Vols

Lolllllll clearly you're joking.

Just a guess, but I think it's more about attitude than ability with that comment. Lacey wants to be a Vol. He's dreamed of being a Vol. He may not have Ugo's physical capabilities, but he's not all over the place mentally. I think you've mentioned working with Ugo in the past. Even you have to admit Ugo's been all over the place. First he commits to OM, then he commits to LSU, now he's committed to Oregon. The young man may have skills, but there are huge questions as to where his head is at.

Exactly what I was referring to. Kid wants to be a vol and looks at his preferred-walk on offer as a blessing.

I wasn't talking in terms of talent. Make no mistake though, this kid has ability..
