This was exactly my thought when I posted the question about 400,000.. at least a milli... AT LEAST.
I would say this is accurate. I would say in the State of Tennessee alone, of those who follow college football, 80% are UT fans. Of the other 20%, most are transplants and bandwagon fans of other teams.
Add to that our transplants to other areas and around the world and I would say your probably right.
Vanderbilt MAY have 5% of the football population as fans, and I'm guessing that I'm being very generous. They can't even fill their own stadium with the help of orange and white clad fans who had nothing better to do with their time and money than to go watch their pathetic excuse for a football program.
I remember a year or two ago from one of the NY sites or papers they estimated the size of fanbases. UT was in the top 5 or 10, with well over 1,000,000 estimated.
We have the greatest number of "true" fans in the world. Just look at twitter. Gibson asked us and OHState to retweet his tweets. Ours was well over 1000 while OState was around 300. I don't even think its close.
"I know we've had a couple of schedule changes but I know for sure we're going to be at Tennessee on Saturday," he said. "We might also be there Friday. Ole Miss will be on Thursday and Friday and Mississippi State might be on Friday also. We might not go to Mississippi State because the coach might not be in town because of something with his family."
Rivals100 defensive tackle Tim Settle will be taking these visits with DeBerry."
