Tennessee already had three defensive backs committed in the class of 2016, but you never turn down someone as talented and versatile as Byrd. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defensive back could play either cornerback or safety at the next level and that makes him a valuable asset to the Vols in this class.
With both safety spots open for competition this year and little depth behind Cameron Sutton, Emmanuel Moseley and Justin Martin at cornerback, Byrd could find himself in a position for meaningful snaps come August.
Byrd is physical but can also turn and run with receivers. He showed his wide array of skills in the Army All-American Game where he had an interception, as pass breakup and blocked a field goal and then returned if for a touchdown.
Special teams may be where he makes his biggest impact on the field next year. The Sunshine State product sees himself as a playmaker in coverage and block units in that facet of the game so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Butch Jones really like his game early on.
No matter what position he plays at the next level, he should have opportunities relatively early.
-VQ.It's a big step towards the defensive back class in 2016 being loaded. Byrd is added to a group that includes Marquill Osborne, DJ Henderson (both on campus already) and Baylen Buchanan.
Those four comprise a very solid group by themselves, but with the possible addition of Rivals100 defensive back Nigel Warrior, the Vols could certainly finish with three Rivals100 defensive backs plus two more, very solid players, in this class.
The group would upgrade Tennessee's roster in athleticism and just overall talent in the defensive backfield. Before the arrival of Osborne, Tennessee's roster had just four defensive backs with a 4-star ranking. Bringing in three, top-notch players in this class should go a long ways in helping the Vols' defense continue to improve.
No, even VB didn't approach the levels of complete and utter vulgarity and immature behavior as the Miami boards did tonight. Sure, we have a few jackwagons, but nothing like what I witnessed there.
doesnt even approach the levels of vitriol on the cane boards tonight, moreover there were many who called out our immature fans, i dont care for bell or ramsey or many others but i dont condone breaking their legs either, as can be seen on their boards with rarely any posters calling for civility,Just a few I found. I know there were plenty of vulgar comments here and on Twitter. While half of VN can be realistic and rational even after the Dooley experiment, the other half of volnation is always there with foot in mouth

Maybe I have the wrong attitude, and if so, then so be it. But the very second Vonn Bell picked up a hat that was not orange, I no longer "wish him well."
I hope he is the biggest bust in recruiting history and he never plays a single down... and I hope Ohio St. never wins another game, and that Urban Meyer gets fired and is poor for the rest of his life.
But hey that's just me.

What's pathetic is hanging out on another team's board on NSD instead of celebrating on your own. Who does that? The only answer that comes to mind is a douchebag. JMHO
3000gt, nice try but the garbage on canesight right now is not even in the same league as those Vonn Bell comments. Hell, its not even the same sport. Go read for yourself, if you have a strong stomach.
-VQ."I loved the campus and I loved the players there," Byrd said. "Being with the players and seeing Alvin Kamara and Cam Sutton give up high draft picks to come back and play made an impression on me. They decided to stay and win and not take money."
"It's a great feeling," Byrd said. "He never really said anything to me about Tennessee until the last month. He respected it and he always wanted me to be happy. When I started thinking about it then he started telling me more about Tennessee and how great Tennessee is.
"I feel like I can help from Day #1," Byrd said. "I'm going to have to come in and work. It's not going to be easy, but I'm going to work and if I do all that I need to do then I feel like I can come in and be playmaker."
"I feel like I can help all over the field," Byrd said. "I feel like I can help on special teams and just be a playmaker at corner or safety. I know I can just make plays no matter where the coaches play me."
He's also very fond of special teams and cherishes the chance to help."My high school coaches emphasize special teams," Byrd said. "It shows what you are willing to do to help the team. Most people don't want to be on special teams. I just want to help the team."
Helping make the decision to switch easier was the Tennessee coaching staff that left quite the impression on Byrd. He really enjoyed the entire staff and feels like they are going to help put Tennessee back on the National map.
"They have told me I can help them on either side of the ball," Byrd said. "I liked being around their families. They have their sons there and they are all great men. They are great husbands and really good coaches. I believe they can get Tennessee to that championship level."
Someone give me a link. Still, I know freak and the other mods did a big cleanup on bells thread.
