Well-rounded defensive lineman Aaron Thompson isn't exactly sure of when he wants to shut things down and choose one lucky college, but the finish line is certainly in sight for this tenacious senior out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard, who scooped up yet another offer on Sunday evening from Tennessee.
Thompson, who just rearranged his official visit plans with the Volunteers now squarely in the mix for his services, currently has a trio of trips lined up with Maryland (1/15), Tennessee and South Carolina (1/29).
"It's a pretty big offer and they're in the SEC," Thompson said when asked about Tennessee. "The coaches recently started following me on Twitter and hitting me up. Today, (tight ends) coach (Larry) Scott asked me if I was still open to recruiting and I said yeah.
I do not think I would want to take more than 21, because that would mean we probably lose someone on current roster that we do not want to lose imo.
Kind of late to be dropping commitments. I think Butch would have done it back when he dumped Marshall and Chidi if he was going to.
By my count we currently have 23 open scholarships for next year, and there will be some attrition; there always is. Of course it's a moving target with the numbers game, but even if S. Jones ends up being the only non-senior player who leaves this off-season, we could still take 23. Now, where that puts us up against the 25 annual max with blueshirts from previous years, and how Butch might finagle a higher number, I have no idea. But, if I were a betting man, my money right now would be on us taking more than 21.
I have us at only 19 open spots. I'll list a few guys that you guys may not be counting and let me know if I'm right. I like to keep up with this stuff so I would appreciate some feedback.
Joe Young
Zach Stewart
Riley Lovingood
Trevor Daniel
Those are the only guys I see that you probably aren't counting.
does anyone think us offering this young man is indicative of our position with Brown? with the late offer of a WR, Slot guy, and DT Butch may have gotten information that leads him to believe we are out of the running for Hardman (iyam we were out a long time ago), And Brown? just analyzing all sides.
Flipside is new coach is bringing in some Fla recruits that he really likes. Just not sure how the numbers work out when were in on so many bigtime guys.
I think so. Offer goes out to Thompson in case they miss on Brown. Offer out to Williams as it looks like they miss on Callaway. Richards still a possibility.
I also keep a list going. I don't have Trevor Daniel listed as a scholarship player. I also don't have Stewart since he isn't currently enrolled.
seems to me some may wish to temper their expectations for this class. the writing is on the wall...heck. anything can happen; obviously if Brown etc change their minds, you dont say no to them. Just that the new coach at Georgia is new, and; has no track record. It worked for Butch, and looks like its working for Kirby now.
New staffs mean kids have a shot to start. New coaches can sell the idea, "you're my guy". Makes sense to me recruits buy into it and think the path to starting day one is there.
I do think NSD will be much quieter than some think. Warrior choosing our Vols will be huge. That should help lessen the blow to missing on other top targets.
Good coaching can make a roster full of 3 star talent with some 4 star talent sprinkled in play an elite level of football.
Great coaching can make a roster full of 5 star talent with some 4 star talent sprinkled in beat all other elite programs and win multiple NC's. Since that is Saban's maxim we can't ignore it since Bama is historically our main rival.
