'16 NC CB Marquill Osborne (UT commit 9/6/14)

Yeah, I'd be highly surprised if most staffs weren't filled out by Christmas now that its a dead period.

They can sign financial agreement papers but it doesn't bind them to school. Only binds the school to them.

IIRC.
You're right but I'll add to it.

They are bound to the school once they take any benefit provided by the scholarship whether it be lodging, food, books, etc. If a kid spends the night at the dorm, he is bound to the school.

Do y'all think Martinez might delay his announcement that he's taking another job until Marquill is enrolled? That would be pretty low.

No Richt would want his DC before then. I don't know that at the end of the day he makes willie his DC. Its odd to hire someone as your DC when you fired them years ago. Maybe as DB coach but is lateral enough for Willie to move when his son is on our team and enrolled at TN?

As a coach, all of the persistent uprooting has got to get old. I cannot imagine that Willie Martinez willingly wants to move to South Beach. My guess says he will be willing to listen to Mark Richt, but the offer would have to be much superior to the one in Knoxville for him to actually leave. Tennessee has alot going for the program, and Butch Jones has been very fair and loyal to his staff up until this point.

South Beach is home to Willie and his wife. So moving there wouldn't be an issue at all. Whether he gets the offer he wants or willing to accept lateral move if he doesn't is the question. He wants to be a DC again. So i think he should stay unless Richt gives him DC. If he stays and we make the championship run we expect them he becomes a hot name again

Well when you're from Miami, your wife is likely from Miami and your families likely still live in Miami, there's a good incentive to move to Miami.

Here are some tweets from Football Scoop that might give some insight as to why Martinez and Azzani haven't accepted positions that most of us think have been offered to them:

A number of folks have asked about some assistant hires that haven’t happened yet. One reason: Bowl Bonuses. They are meaningful these days.

With recruiting dead, more often than in the past, guys will stay and coach (& earn check)…then agree to new deals when “offered”.

Doesn’t impact everyone; but is more relevant than in the past with increased bowl bonuses & dead period.

Wow...I just hope our staff is being honest with the recruits.

Meh. Your new team can tie the bonus in if needed somehow

I believe Martinez's parents live in South Florida. While I mostly agree with your statement, you can't discount family, especially in a profession that has kept him away for years. He isn't a young man. If he gets offered a pay raise, he also takes a job with a friend and resets himself for another 3-4 years with no worries. Just something to consider.

Had to check the thread twice since I thought I clicked a coaching thread the first time. Is he the last we can take as an EE this cycle?

We COULD take more, it's just looking like most of our commits aren't able to EE for one reason or another. So yeah, he will probably be the last unless there are some surprises.

I did not realize his roots were in South Beach. Taking that into consideration, as well as having the opportunity to work with Mark Richt for potentially an extended duration, this gets a bid more interesting. Regardless, Butch Jones has to hire someone who is comparable so that we can hang onto Osborne. I would hate to see him jump ship to the Buckeyes in that event. WE NEED TALENTED CORNERS.
:)

He's apparently signed:

@UTCoachJones: #VolNation I want to welcome Marquill Osborne to the Tennessee Football Family!!! #Team120 📝🍊 @gotfootball3
