'16 NJ RB Kareem Walker

He's done quite a few really good edits, I've posted 3 or 4 of em. He (or she) has some real skill.

Give me two of:

Walker
Speights
Holyfield
Emmons
Washington

And I'll be happy. We need two backs in this class, no doubt. If one of Hurd or Kamara goes down, we're not deep enough yet.

I'd climb the scaffolding and ring the Liberty Bell if we landed Walker & Emmons

I think RB is actually our most glaring need. And we can sell high quality backs on coming here, because Kamara has possibly one year, at most 3 here. Hurd has two more years, at most 3 here. Paulk I still believe is not coming back (I could be wrong, but I'm just gonna believe he's not until he is). John Kelly, honestly, when I looked at his 247 Junior film, I think he only had two snaps as a RB, so it's hard to say much about him. He looked good as a safety, and looked REALLY good as a return man. His greatest asset seems to be his field vision, and ability to read the blocks.

WR, we are losing Von and Pig after this year, and could possibly lose North if he breaks out well enough to go to the NFL. I personally don't believe he will. Remember, North played WR almost zero in HS. He will probably stay all 4 to become as polished as possible. So next year, we're looking at North, Croom, Josh Smith, Preston Williams, Malone, and Cody Blanc. So, we aren't as deep as we need to be. Bringing in Henderson, but need someone like Mitchell or Jeff George from JUCO. Will definitely need 2-3 WR's. We aren't as deep as we'd like to believe.

I think the offensive line, they will wait to see how the young FR develop in order to project what they need there. Obviously, you're going to take some every year, unless you're Dooley. I think if a guy like Matthews or Dickerson wants to pull the trigger, then you definitely take them. I think that that will be a very fluid situation though. We took a good amount of OL last round, so it'll depend a lot on how they develop initially as far as how many we take now. We are losing Crowder, Jackson and Kerbyson after this year, so at least 2 will be signed on, I'd bet.

DL, we are losing two, Saulsberry and Owen Williams. I could see us taking 2-4 DL, two at each position. Would love to see a haul of Gary, Derrick Brown, Emmitt Gooden, and Kareem. I know that's a long shot, but why not? Butch makes every long shot seem like a possibility. He's had us in with and landed players that Dooley would have never even talked to.

LB is a big need I think. JRM could have a huge year, losing Maggitt hurts, Weatherd will be gone, we probably need at least 3 linebackers this year. I see us going really heavy on linebackers

DBs, losing Randolph, McNeil, and that's all. However, Moseley, Kelly, Berry, and Sutton are solid. Don't think Sutton will leave for the NFL. I think under Butch you'll see a lot fewer guys leaving after 3. I think when you build a culture on family and these guys see that the next level for this program is so close, I think they'll hang around. JMO, could be wrong, I can't fault anyone for getting their money. But I could see Sutton, JRM and North hanging around for all 4, even with good years. So, I think we'll recruit some. Osbourne is a great one. I'd guess maybe 3?

So, breakdown then:

1 - QB
2 - RB
3 - WR
3 - OL
4 - DL
4 - LB
3 - DB

That's 20. And of course, Butch does what Butch wants. I'm just speculating, which is all you can do at this point.

And no...I'm not Leb, lol.

Def need 2. If Kamara blows up he could go pro after 1 yr but if not you run into the next yr where both he and Hurd likely would declare as juniors. So you need to find their replacements in this class.

Agreed, and I think it's a great selling point. Get in, get your feet wet next year, and then if Hurd and Kamara leave for the league, you're the guy. If not, you're part of the plan to preserve them to get to the league, and you can be a three headed monster. There's gonna be enough carries to go around.

Would love to see Hurd, Kamara, and Walker as our 3 deep in 2016.

We need at least 2-3 more RBs. Hurd has yet to stay healthy a full year since his Jr yr in hs and we don't know what will become of Kamara

Nice analysis. With all the DB talent in this class, I hope we can bring in more than 3.

I'd guess we take around 22. They seem to really want to address WR, so I'd guess we take 4. And LB, Maggitt and Weatherd both leave, but both are more hybrid players. I wouldn't guess we'd take more than 2 with all the depth we have there. And we need more depth in the secondary, so I'd guess 4-5 there.

1 - QB
2 - RB (maybe Kamara gone)
4 - WR (Pearson, Howard, Johnson, maybe North gone)
3 - OL (Kerbyson, Jackson, Crowder gone)
1 - TE (Ellis gone)
4 - DL (Maggitt, Saulsberry, Williams gone)
2 - LB (Weatherd, maybe JRM gone)
5 - DB (Randolph, McNeill, maybe Sutton gone)

Obviously since there's only 13 scholarship seniors on the roster, there will once again be - wait for it - ATTRITION.

That's not particularly telling though. Saying "since his JR year of HS makes it sound like a ridiculously long time. Instead, its been "Hurd has has injuries in the previous two seasons". And, last season was minor, he didn't even miss a full game, though he missed most of two. And, I remember hearing some speculation that he probably could have played some of his Senior year had he not wanted to ensure that he was in the best condition (health wise) possible for UT.

We still need more in the way of RBs. But, having a mobile QB, having two star RBs, having at least 1 defensive player who can get carries, having two wr's who have had some success running jet sweeps, and having a couple of warm bodies behind Hurd and Kamara should leave us okay barring disaster.

Edit: After all, it isn't like we are worse off than last year. Last year we didn't *really* have Paul or Scott either. We had Lane instead of Kamara, a freshman Hurd instead of a sophomore Hurd, a terribly immobile QB for half of our games, and we had Devrin Young and a few warm bodies instead of RDAIV and a few warm bodies.

Hurd2 > Hurd 1; Kamara >>>>>Lane; RDAIV = or > than Young; other warm bodies = old warm bodies.

We could be better off, but we are better than we were before.

Karma doesnt even have a D1 rushing attempt yet.

That's exactly the way I'm thinking as well. Obviously it could change with defections after next season (as you mention, there will always be some), but as of right now, I completely agree with your breakdown.

Others for more scholarships opportunities:

I always put the RS juniors in this category, because they could probably graduate after 4 years also. Football players go to summer school which gives them more time to graduate a little early.

Players in this situation include:

Bynum
Croom
Lemond Johnson
Brodus, maybe a few others

Not saying these players will leave a little early, but if they are passed over by other players, they may consider it.

Kamara doesn't have to have a D1 rushing attempt to know that he should, barring absolute disaster, be a much better RB this year than Lane was in 2014. And, he is a better fit to complement Hurd.

He will also have an OC that better understands the use of a run game and how to get the ball to the playmakers. Jmo

Kamara will also have a better OL. Jmo

The previous OC wanted to be a chess master strategist. He was always thinking 5-6 plays ahead. Problem was that he did not script the 1st three plays well enough to get to plays 4,5, &6 very often. Hope he shows out as an NFL QB coach, will reflect well on CBJ. :)

2 - RB (maybe Kamara gone).

Volnation thought VP was a one and done leading up to last season. Other than CP, who was an absolute physical freak, who have been our other 1 and done (not failed out, drafted into the NFL) juco's?

The odds of Karmara leaving after next year are very slim although anything can happen, IMO, TIFWIW, PETA, AARP
