16 team conferences will destroy college football

My 64 team/4 conference super conference:
Not bad except the big east would most likely fall apart...The ACC will not fall apart....More than likely them and the Big 10 would raid the Big East for teams.

Uconn won the NC this year iirc.

theres 16 teams in Big East BB - they all beat each other, then when the NCAA tourney comes around they all get early exits (even though motor mouth Vitale claims they are so great ) No its a terrible idea for FB - you will never see another undefeated team in your lifetime and cheating will be worse than it is now. And IMO you will pay out your a$$ for PPV and any other TV games - nothing will be free anymore (pay a cable bill plus extra for college sports)

If we expand to 16 teams. Here are the some teams I think make the most since:
Virginia Tech- (Open up Virginia market)
West Virginia- (Could compete in both football and basketball)
Texas A&M- This one is a given

EAST CAROLINA- (Yes I'm being serious, they have just as loyal of a fan base as anyone. They have the second largest Non BCS stadium and they sell out every game. I was in Charlotte when they played South Carolina and I was more than impressed with their fan base along with their talent)

I can get with A&M and VPI, but WVU adds nothing. ECU has no chance of getting an invite. Selling out 50k fans is nothing impressive.

I'm not saying 50k is that impressive. But it is better than any other non-BCS school. And better than a lot of BCS schools for that matter. WVU has the largest stadium in the Big East and their listed capacity is 57,000. And they have large support for basketball as well. I'm just trying to exercise all the options.
As far as ECU goes, this is just what I personally like to see I'm not saying they can realistically get an invite. I used to live in NC and I know that the SEC could thrive there.

Change is not always bad. The good ole days of the little tightly packed SEC are gone. Bigger is the future. Sorry.

rocky_top10,

ECU would have the second smallest stadium in the SEC, and they don't really move the TV ratings needle. I agree that NC is the best market within the logical footprint after Texas, but I think the candidate would have to be UNC or NC State.

bamawriter,

Anybody who joins other than A&M is going to be on the lower end in terms of stadium capacity (Including NC State and UNC). Having grown up in NC i can tell you that ECU receives just as much television exposure as NC State.

I absolutely agree with you that UNC would be a better option but it is hard for me to imagine them leaving their ACC basketball roots. But you never know if the money is right i guess...

The whole big 12 collapse has the potential to make everything crazy. Was just listening to the radio and the local host was interviewing the guy from orangbloods.com and he said that there is potential that Texas could land in the ACC and the Longhorn network (the cause of most of this realignment) could fall apart due to tv deals already established in the PAC 12 and the ACC. Texas could also go independent in football only. This is just speculation but it is coming from a Longhorn source (orangebloods.com)

Hearing the SEC vote to admit Texas A&M was 10-2 and that West Virginia is squarely on the SEC radar as a potential 14th member.

So, we get the ***gies and mountain men and pac ten most likely takes texas, okY, and oky st? Id rather stay at twelve. I think we either make the first move to 16 or get stuck with the leftovers. JMO

If the Pac-"Whatever" ends up with Texas and Oklahoma, and the SEC ends up with TAMU and WVU...well, Katy bar the door...'bout to get real.

I think A&M is one of those schools whose stadium is at the lower end of capacity. It 'only' seats 82,000. There is some talk of tearing down the east and west sides of the stadium, keeping 'The Zone' on the north (endzone) side, and rebuilding to 100,000. They would play their home games for a couple of years at Reliant in Houston.

It would be middle of the pack (7th):
UT
Bama
Georgia
LSU
Florida
Auburn
A&M
South Carolina
Arkansas
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Miss St
Vandy

For Reference, here's where some of the other names being mentioned would place:
Missouri - (71,004) - 10th behind Arkansas
VT - (66,233) - 11th behind Kentucky
WVU - (60,000) - 12th behind Ole Miss
