financial aid to participate in football and who participates (practices or competes) in football and one or more

and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who competes in football and one or more sports (including
basketball) shall be counted in football. (Revised: 1/10/95 effective 8/1/95, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96, 1/15/11
effective 8/1/11)

Basically, that means football scholarship always count first because football is most likely to try to squeeze in more scholarship players.

That's probably it. I think the hope covers 3k a year which would still leave quite a bit of expenses. I wonder if the walk ons get all of the football facility meals like the scholarship guys?It seems like they would but the NCAA never ceases to amaze me with their decisions so who knows.

$4K I think. And if he scored 30 or better on the ACT he's eligible for another $1000. He could also be eligible for more academic $ if his grades are good too.

I think the rule means that the student cannot be recruited as a football player and then receive another type scholarship while playing football, without it counting as a football scholarship. The point is that he might receive an academic scholarship and walk onto the football team, IF he was not recruited as a football player. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

Yeah I'm pretty sure walk-ons can still receive the Hope Scholarship. It's a merit based scholarship based on academic performance, so there should be no problem with them receiving it if they aren't receiving some sort of athletic based scholarship as well.

I love stories like this. He's betting on himself. If he puts in the work, and I'm sure he will, I wouldn't be shocked if he turned himself into something special. GBO !

I would say he has a much better chance of being a josh smithish type of player than a jason witten. Still.....every team needs a few of those kids that play with heart more so than an abundance of talent. Happy to have him!

Webb School senior Andrew Craig was relaxing with friends during a free period at school in mid-November when his phone started buzzing. The two-time all-state defensive lineman wasn't expecting a call, but answered anyway.

"I didn't recognize the number," Craig said with a laugh. "I was on the couch with my friends and they were making loud noises. When I answered, all I hear is the voice on the phone say: 'Why are you answering your phone during school?' I didn't know what to say.

And then he said: 'Hey, Andrew, this is Butch Jones.' "
